does someone make bonuses off of our "customer connection score?"(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by alishka1001
I know its our job as baristas to connect and I try my best to do so with people but sometimes its hard to initiate a conversation past how are you. sometimes it isn't.
I'm coming to one year of working with starbucks and its my first job and I've loved it but it's certainly also had lots of downs. I feel like so much has changed and is still changing espically since covid and onward.
anyways - there's always been a huge push for increasing that customer connection score, which I understand from a store experience viewpoint, wanting to provide that customer with a good visit. however... its always been SO pushed on everyone to keep connecting.. connect.. connect connect.. to the point where it feels fake, annoying and unnecessary..
so now I've started wondering, does someone make bonuses (sm? dm?) if stores have a certain customer connection percentage?

Yes. Everything that your manager pushes you to do, customer connections or improved window times, directly effects how much money they make in bonuses. They received bonuses for keeping their stores open in the first few months of the pandemic.

False.
Quarterly SM bonuses are calculated only on sales comp.

SMs bonus is dependent on many factors and one of those factors is the score (but if the score is low, the bonus won’t be affected much). The push for the score is to gain business. The higher the score, the happier the customer, the more likely they return and give us business, the more likely they will tell their friends about that one Starbucks that has nicer baristas than the other one.

What sbux do you work for that customer connection affects an SMs quarterly bonus? The sbux I work for calculates bonuses on one metric only and it’s not customer connection.

My store is a “test” or “flagship” store. We test every single new launch, new standard, new equipment, new systems, etc. We were the ones to test new teamwork’s app, new scheduling system, new laptops, etc. The bonuses at my store are set up differently and the pay is different for partners as well.

Are you Reserve? Princi? Roastery? Siren retail? Regular CO SM bonuses are calculated only on sales comp.

Customer connection score is part of the metrics that affect SM bonuses. Like I said, it’s a very small part of it and doesn’t affect it that much, but it does count. There are many factors that go into the calculating the bonus and SMs performance.

Might wanna check out that quarterly RMIP document again... Only one metric. And it’s sales comp.

Does anyone know how these are determined or what they are out of? Ex 30/60, 30/100

I had a manager get fired for declining customer connections. They were bad. Like 14 bad. Next manager managed to muscle them up to a 19. It's a tough store.

yeah our score keeps going between 31-35. which is actually good for my store cause it used to be in the 24-29 range before. it's just tough because we're right off the highway and covinentely near lots of stuff. our predicted volume/buisness that was expected when we opened was waaaay lower than what it actually is. like we're always busy and its hard to be bringing in lots of buisness and fast service while also maintaining connections or whatever u know? its just the nature of the store.
also my previous manager that opened the store got transfered and we got a new one in cause she had a few years to bring the score up or whatever but then she couldn't so they swapped her and another manager.

Is that a normal range? Or is it dependant on the area?
alishka1001 [OP]1 points3y ago
um well we are one of the top in sales in my district but definitely one of the lowest, if not the lowest in customer connection in my district. so it's dependant I guess.

Our connections scores are high 50s, low 60s and thats a huge deal in our district. I think the goal is 40?
ihateyousoymatcha1 points3y ago
We're in the mid to high range on sales in our district, I think, but we're typically top in connection score.
My SM occasionally pushes connections but he doesn't really worry about it. He posts our score on Slack every week and we float in the 50-60 range

The potential for an SM to receive a quarterly bonus is in no way tied to CC scores.
