Shift conflict (self.starbucksbaristas)

At our location, our schedules are given out 2 weeks prior (not sure if it’s the same for actual SB because I work in a SB in Loblaws). So the schedule for this week was released 2 weeks ago. I found out that I have a midterm this week so I started giving out my shifts.

Last week, one of my supervisors told me she could take the shift that happened to be on the same day as my midterm. I told my manager about the shift change.

Yesterday, I got a text from my manager saying that the supervisor can’t take the shift because she’s at max hours which made me confused because why would the supervisor take my shift if she knows she’s at max hours. She also asked why I’m giving out my shifts and I told her I have a midterm.

**My manager has a habit of giving out shifts that’s not on the schedule without discussing beforehand.**

My manager told me I had to find someone to cover it, which I couldn’t.

So I’m not sure what to do now, I feel like I should call in sick but what’s the point when she already knows why I can’t come in?

I’d call in. Like yeah she knows why you’re doing it, but it’s more like saying “I’m going to use a sick day” than “I’m actually literally sick.” And of course work is important because we’ve all got bills and stuff, but in no way should a barista job have higher priority than your actual important life stuff. If any boss thinks it should, they’re delusional.
