Usually nothing, honestly.... Most of the time, tornadoes are still pretty far away even when there is a warning, and people kind of go about their business. On the rare occasion that it’s a real, immediate threat, everyone in the store is supposed to get as far away from windows as possible, so that usually means huddling customers in the back room or near the bathrooms

The one time it was kinda serious we went and sat in the bathrooms. We just brought in chairs and sat in there for about 20 minutes. And the crazy thing was people were still coming thru drive?! And we’re like you do know a tornado is on the ground near by? Like no we’re not making you a drink right now.

You should have in your store a store evacuation / shelter in place response procedures packet somewhere accessible (probably in BoH near desk) that your manager put together. Ask your manager to see your store’s. Every store is different.

I haven’t had the situation pop up at Starbucks, but at my previous restaurant the goal is to get everyone away from the windows and towards the back room. I obviously couldn’t lock all the doors in the restaurant, but I was allowed to lock the patio door, so that left one door to enter and one door to exit in the front. I also always checked the weather radar on my phone and office computer, and if I could safely send home employees I would do so in plenty of time. 🤷🏻♀️ I’m sure the same is done in the cities, but I live out in the country side where it is super easy to get stranded from the numerous low crossing areas that get flooded quickly. Most customers were smart enough to get back to their houses before the bad weather started, but we were still required to serve anyone who came by and not allowed to close the store unless the owner and/or store manager deemed it necessary.

Or have a tornado touch down about 2km away from your store.... don’t know in the moment as we randomly got warnings but nothing ever happened..... saw the rain... lost power.. then we found out! Some area lose power for 22 hours ( my house 4km away from touch down) up to 4 days in some areas.....
We take tornado warnings more serious now!!! That storm threw 4 decent sized tornados at Ottawa when we haven’t had any in... awhile....

Depends on the store. A couple of years ago a store in Indiana got flattened by a tornado. Everyone inside was safe cause the shift on duty put them all in the bathroom last second. There's a video of it somewhere.
