I've been SSV for 3 months. I've been learning a lot about a lot of things but my priorities for now are to have an organised shift and motivate people who is working with me. I believe that is what is different working for Starbucks or for other company. Because of that I always try to give 10 min breaks even for part time Batistas and I organise my routines to let them free really on the time they should leave.
Despite that, I know they work hard but they don't push themselves up. Sometimes I feel some of them don't do their best, don't do the "extra mile" and don't start ten of five minutes earlier even if they see we need help. As I said, I want to keep them motivated and I was expecting because I do my best for them, they would do the same.
Hope to make sence. Any tips? Thanks a lot 👊

Yes, stop having unrealistic expectations of your minimum wage coworkers and focus instead on encouraging corporate to “go the extra mile” for your baristas, especially in the middle of a global pandemic.
You should also never have the expectation that anyone *should* be willing to clock in early or extend their shifts or really do anything outside of their scheduled work hours. It’s your responsibility to communicate with your manager when you need more coverage.

Yes, I get it, that's why I really don't ask them to. Work has been hard during this times, completely agree. Work these days is already run the extra mile. Thank a lot for your opinion!

Working hard is ALL they need to do and you already said they do that.
hand to god I’m not trying to be mean. It sounds like you really care about your partners and that is commendable! however, reality is, they are not being paid to ‘go the extra mile‘. This is a job, this is a paycheck. As long as they are doing their job, back off. Some people might be okay with it but there are others for whom the ‘rah rah go team lets go above and beyond‘ spiel is only going to breed resentment.

I agree with this, it’s great that you love your job to the point that you want to go the extra mile, but reality is that a lot of baristas, part time or not, are there because it’s a job so they’re going to work their scheduled shift, meet job expectations, and get the fuck out.
You may be able to convert/motivate some of them but if they don’t love it from the beginning, I don’t think much will change that, ESP in today’s climate (understaffing, low pay, etc)
You can’t expect more from your minimum wage, part time baristas. They’re doing their job and working hard given the environment. Don’t push them too hard or they’ll just quit like me :)

Liked to read your opinion. Yes, completely understand. Thank you for your tip!

Thank you. I understand what you are saying and I can agree. All the people are different and all they will look differently to work. Thank you very much!

Figure out what they're interested in doing and find a way to make that relevant to the store.
Maybe someone is curious about expanding their coffee knowledge, encourage them to explore coffee pairings, or latte art, or improving their craft.
Maybe someone has artistic talent, find time to let them use it for chalk art.
Engage them with questions about what they want: what do your baristas want to change about the store to make it better?

Great ideia, I'll try, thank you very much!

It’s nice to go the extra mile sometimes, but when you do it every day you just end up burning out your engine early and start coasting.
Call me unmotivated, but you’d hardly ever see me clocking in early or coming in on my day off so I don’t expect anyone else too. If I’m in a bind, I’ll ask and if they say no then it’s no hard feelings because I totally get it.
