Which is completely consumed my store. Constantly shifts and their favorite baristas are hiding in the back room while we run a two floor and struggle during our 5 o clock rush. Shift takes their lunch, their pet barista is sitting back there with them laughing about TikTok videos and some ‘crazy party coming this weekend’. Then when the barista takes their lunch guess what? Shift is back there hanging out the whole time.
To make matters worst I’ve been passed over for a promotion to shift. The kicker? It was to one of these pet Baristas. I’ve been a manager for GameStop, an ASM for Walmart, and a DM for Dollar General.. but I got passed over and lost the promotion to some one who just called out due to “too hungover” and got three customer complaints in *one week* about using profanity on the floor.
Don’t know wether to transfer, quit, and burn the place down.
Also, I know some of you will give advice on how to report this but know that I have, Ive gone through the correct channels and nothing has been down. The favoritism runs real deep in this district.

If you've already reported it and nothing has happened there is a decision to make. If you like your job, the company, and want to advance then you need to transfer. If you could take it or leave it then consider quitting. I wish you the best whatever your choice.

i’m putting in a notice bc of this

Even a single report of profanity in front of a customer, by a customer, is supposed to be followed by immediate termination (by our policy at least)

Wait what? Is this all of Starbucks? Because yikes I should've been fired long ago

As a 7 year partner what I have noticed is that they don’t want experienced shift managers. They don’t want smart people with lots of experience and skill. What they DO want is anyone who is incredibly naive and who won’t ask any questions. Three girls who had been with the bux for LESS THAN A YEAR got promoted to shift before me. It’s a huge slap in the face to people who actually care about the company and want to do a good job. Later I also realized that they promoted me last because I’m the strongest opening barista at the store and they didn’t want to lose that. It’s really messed up. I had originally wanted to move up to ASM but not if I have to play dumb and kiss ass and not speak up when my rights are being violated.. it might be time to finally move on!

I cannot imagine this. Everyone in our store is working their tail off right now. Unbelievable

If you’ve gone through the proper channels, then there’s no hope for your store. Store and partner culture is a big thing for Starbucks and if yours is negative, it isn’t worth your time. I cannot imagine being at a store where my partners slack off, if I were covering there I would absolutely have something to say. Perhaps considering calling partner resources to express your concerns after looking for other stores to transfer too.
