working a morning shift when you aren’t a morning person: a story time (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by brit_666
i’m not a morning person at all, and am very much a night owl. i work at 6 am and my alarm is set for 5am. it’s currently 1am and i’m wide awake. will i go to sleep any time soon? will i just pull an all nighter? why did i agree to work at 6 am? how many nitros will i drink during my shift tomorrow?

(let me know if you guys want updates on this tale)

Tall Nitro, 3 pumps vanilla, add 2 shots x 2 is my heart attack/kick start. Good luck to you

One better, hot vsc cb, steam the vsc and cb separately, vanilla in the cb. It’s bomb as HELL and I hate coffee.

Yeah it normally worked okay until you’re on your 8th shot of a 6 hour shift and have been doing it for a few weeks, and the heart palpitations or whatever make you think you’re having a heart attack

Grande nitro w/sc, 2 shots, 2 toffee nut, 2 vanilla was always my go to

I have the same problem but mornings is the only time that works for mine and my bf's schedule. And it doesn't help that when I try to take a nap it ends up being too long and then messes me up for the next day.

OMG SAME. I had to adjust my availability because I was late sooo many times! No matter how much I try, I cannot sleep early without taking sleeping pills. Im surprised they haven't fired me at that time lol.

No matter what form of caffeine you settle for in the morning, do your body a favor and drink some water! I used to get horrible stomach aches from overdoing it on caffeine, especially since I can't eat that early in the morning. Hydrate yourself pleeeease.

When you get home, take a nap. Set an alarm so you don't sleep the day away and screw yourself the following night.

I was a clopener for basically my entire 6 years at Starbucks. It's hell. You can do this though!

i have definitely pulled an all nighter or two before a super early shift. I’m the same way, total night owl, and stressing out about waking up early only makes it harder for me to sleep. but I wouldn’t recommend getting no sleep, any rest is better than nothing!

Chug at least a grande water no ice first thing. Anything else you do after that will be just be fluff.

Take it from an opener, the more you do it the easier it gets.

Definitely don’t do all night. But you’ll feel better once you get the ball rolling on your shift. I hate mornings but I definitely function way better when I get up early

I chug a six shot Double Shot, I call it "Happy Hour Juice"

I'm not a morning person yet I'm working the next two opens 4:30am-11:30am. Not the worst but too early for a night owl

I picked up an opening shift today so I feel you’re pain. Alarm went off at 3 and I wanted to cry.

I did the exact same thing and I thought death was coming for me like no joke.

lol same! i can literally never sleep before an early shift anyway so i usually do like a tall iced matcha with at least 4 scoops matcha and sub vanilla. coffee works faster but i find matcha gives me better & longer bursts of energy 😔 good luck !!!
