so my store just opened in december of 2019 with my manager who is FANTASTIC. i adore her and she is amazing at her job. in february she told us that she was pregnant ( which is super exciting bc shes 32 and has been trying for several years w her husband ). and then covid hit and our store went from 15 baristas and 5 shifts to 7 baristas and 2 shifts. which meant my manager was having to work extra hard, 12 hour days and non stop moving. in may she had a leak in her placenta so she was going to be bed rest until she could safely have the baby which meant she was going to be out of the store 3 months earlier than originally planned. which also meant that there wasn’t a manager ready to fill in for her so we had a manager from a different store watching both. i got promoted to shift manager in may right before my manager went out so i was fairly new to it when we switched to a proxy manager.

the problem w the proxy is she has only been a manager for 6 months so she was not ready to watch over 2 busy stores. there was no communication w her, i never knew who was gonna be on my floor, we had a ton of borrowed partners that showed up late. then a couple weeks ago i requested 3 days off ( after working all through covid, 45 hour weeks, covering shifts, staying late. and i got denied the one time i requested off bc instead she gave 5 baristas and 2 shifts their requested time off. i was fucking pissed. but i knew she was gonna be gone soon so i got over it. 2 weeks ago we finally got our permanent proxy manager, we’ll call him matcha.

matcha started really good. he did floors for me w out me having to ask, he was ready to make some changes for the better and we were all super excited. instead, 2 days into him being in our store he rearranged the entire back room ( which a lot of us actually put together bc we opened the store ) changed all of the schedules and hours, changed a bunch of the things we’ve been doing for 8 months since we opened, and fucks everything up. i’ve had to have 4 separate conversations w him abt the lack of communication that he is bringing to the floor and he doesn’t get any of our input on anything we do. i’ve had him on my floor 5 times now and every single time he’s been reluctant to do what i ask, go where i put him, or let me run my floor. he acts like i’m stupid, like i don’t know how to run a floor, and i’m sure he hates me bc i’m the only one who doesn’t put up w his shit.

i can’t even imagine showing up to a store, in the middle of a pandemic, when their manager had a premature baby at 30 weeks and is gonna be in nicu for another 3, and everything is unstable and then change everything in sight. all of us told him what we need is stability and a comfortable environment and someone we can rely on and so far, none of that has happened and i’m so fucking done. i dread having him on my floor, he doesn’t listen to anyone, and suddenly i’m not as heart broken to be leaving my store in a couple weeks. i’ll miss my baristas and my other shifts but i need to get the hell out of here.

the worst part is my manager is gonna come back from maternity leave in december and walk into the worst shit show our store has ever seen, and that’s saying something.
