A friendly question! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by slurrinmywrds
My son and I went by a Starbucks and ordered a Frappuccino. No weirdness or substitutions. The girl working freaked out and kept yelling at us about how horrible Frappuccino’s were to make. Since then I’ve been afraid to order anything other than ice coffee. Was this just someone having a bad day or do frapps really suck to make? I can order other things if it’s awful.

Frapps are horrible to make but I'd NEVER say that to a customer. Entirely unprofessional

Thanks so much for the input... I always tip at least $3 but that was such a strange encounter. Thank you for doing what you do.

no lol that’s an overreaction. if you ordered like 10 different ones then yeah that kinda sucks, but it sounds like she was having a bad day and might not be in the right line of work bc she shouldn’t have freaked out on you

Frappuccinos arent bad at all too make-- I know some baristas complain, but never feel discouraged from ordering what you want because of one unprofessional barista! Starbucks is all about making it a customizable experience, anyways; most baristas will gladly make you anything as long as you're nice about it haha

In my honest opinion they aren’t really too bad to make. Maybe the store was slammed and she was a bit frustrated since they do take some time to make. This shouldn’t discourage you from ordering them though! Although something like 7 tall Frappuccino’s in one order can be frustrating lol. Nonetheless, regardless of the order, a barista shouldn’t yell at you lol.

I personally hate making them. I think they're messy and disgusting, especially the ones like the mocha cookie crumble that have like five steps to making them. And all that for an overpriced cup of ice and milk that separates after two minutes. Yelling about that to a customer though is just unnecessary.

Frappucinos aren't the worst thing to make but they DO slow your groove down on bar. How much they slow you down depends on the store you're in, how many blenders are available, as well as the drink and whether there are any modifiers.

I cringe at the thought of any new frappucino being introduced because 1. There will always be some type of inclusion to make it take that much longer and 2. It WILL become part of a secret menu item that I somehow have to interpret for a 14 year old who really just wants the drink to look fancy for instagram or tik tok.

That being said...

I would NEVER complain about making a frappucino for anyone, regardless of how it was ordered or what was ordered. I'm here, getting paid to make a drink for someone who paid for it. It is literally my job to make beverages to order.

Now, if it's the middle of frappocalypse (Happy Hour) I will internally cringe and also potentially silently judge you and your drink order if this is the 485,303rd frappucino I've made in the past three hours...Again, I wouldn't openly or verbally do this to you. It's just what I do to get through until the end of my busy balls to the wall shift.

Thank you for that explanation! Honestly I’ve worked so many customer service jobs but watching my sister in law spend 3 minutes perfecting her SB drink makes me want to run out the door due to embarrassment. Really, I only get iced tea or coffee once in a while and frapps are a once in a blue moon thing if I see that it’s not busy. Sure it’s your job to make what people ask for but damn, I wish people could read the room more. Thanks for responding :)

Anytime! Seriously, ALWAYS order what you want. Yes every barista will appreciate you being polite, every barista will appreciate you ordering something more simple but in the end...get what you want. It's your money, and we should all know how to make whatever drink you ask for. To me, working bar is my favorite thing. I love being able to work quickly and create drinks for people because -most- people are happy to get their coffee or tea or whatever it is. I LOVE it when people ask me for suggestions, because baristas are GOOD at coming up with suggestions. Frappucinos can slow us down but if we know what we're doing we should be more than capable of banging those out and still keeping everyone reasonably happy.
