could someone familiar with MA explain the difference between shift manager and shift supervisor? (self.starbucksbaristas)

I’m planning on transferring from MA to NY at the end of the year, and I was wondering what the difference is exactly between the two positions.

Shift manager is just a bit above shift supervisor. You get a bit higher pay (salary? Not sure) and a bit more responsibility and no tips. Think of it as a position between SSV and ASM.

You are in charge of one of the SMs responsibilities (like a schedule, or inventory), but not full on SM.

Shift manager is a position that only exists in MA because local labor laws there would define a shift as management, so starbucks created this position just for this market. Because it's a management position you don't get tips, but your pay is higher than supervisor.

Think of it like ASM, but not necessarily on a path to become a SM. You get more pay than a shift supervisor, each shift manager in a store is responsible for one or more aspect of the store manager approach (staffing and schedule/inventory/food management/culture and communication)
