Trouble Transferring? (Northern NY > Atlanta, GA)(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by carrems
Hi all!
I’m a 3 year partner in northern New York, and I cannot for the life of me get ahold of any managers in Atlanta who need help. The only manager I’ve had a good lead with said that they’re on a hiring freeze but to keep calling back.
Well I’ve called 5 different times today and the line was busy each time.
I’ve called 7 other stores already and either the manager isn’t available, no one picks up, or I leave a voicemail. I’ve now been on hold with one store for 10 minutes because I think they probably forgot I’m on the line.
Has anyone else ever had trouble transferring like this? I know these are unprecedented times but something’s gotta give, considering I move to Midtown in late August.
If you’re an Atlanta partner, please reach out to me. Feels like I’m grasping at straws and doing my best, and I just want to know I have a job before I make this move.
Thanks y’all

I live about 40mins out of atl and from what I’ve seen, almost all city locations are closed, or only open for a few hours a day. We have more cases there than anywhere else in the state so there’s much more forced covid leaves happening within those stores. Your best bet would be transferring to somewhere on outside of the city, but commuting with traffic is awful. Have you considered becoming a licensed partner instead of corporate? There may be target or kroger starbucks positions available around midtown that pay more and aren’t on a hiring freeze

Thank you so much, that insight helps me so much. It’s so hard planning a move and being so far away, especially with all of the uncertainty and craziness going on everywhere in the country.
I actually did not know that was an option, or that I’d be able to do something like that. I also didn’t know they paid more! That’s really interesting and I’ll have to look into that.
Side note- I do hear a lot about Atlanta traffic. I understand if you can’t answer this, but being that you’re from the area I like to ask anyway— how long would, say, a commute from Midtown, Atlanta to Buckhead take? My significant other is a 7 year partner and Shift supervisor with a lead with a manager in a Buckhead store, and figuring out the logistics of the commute is much different than our style of transportation here in New York.

Midtown to Buckhead and vise versa are only a few miles apart. Without traffic, it's only about 10-12 minutes. With traffic, that time frame could triple. It really depends on the time of day too. Unlike NYC which is probably the standard "city life" image in your head, Atlanta does sleep. If you're an opener, expect less traffic compared to a mid or closing shift. Also, biking is pretty common if you're down for that. To get the best idea of what the commute will be like, you should periodically throughout the day monitor the travel time between where you're moving and the store you're considering transferring to. This will give you accurate times.

Several family members live in atlanta and have mentioned that all the sbux are closed lately. The few that are opened are slammed and probably can't get to the phone.

That definitely makes sense, things are so crazy right now. I really appreciate the input, it definitely helps me be more patient and just keep doing my best.

Man, that sucks. Maybe call PRSC and get some DMs contact info and talk to them?

That’s not something I’ve thought to try yet and it sounds like a good idea!! Thank you so much!

You are welcome :)

i had trouble transferring from one district to another in the same state! it’s so frustrating. i called about 10 stores in the area, and i was never able to speak to a manager, but one or 2 times. i always left my contact info & the barista/shift told me they would pass it on to a manager. i called all of these stores back eventually, then ended up getting the DM’s info from a manager (who told me they couldn’t take me). i left a voicemail with the DM, then she got back to me, and I was finally able to transfer to a store. it did take me a good month of back and forth pestering of stores lol. not fun. then i ended up transferring to a store that was 25 minutes away from me, which i didn’t really want, but i took it anyway. my pay also decreased by 1/4 ): i would recommend getting the DM’s contact info & leaving a message. they can probably help you more.
