Fire near work, and our store manager (who's on Vacay) tells us to work through it lol my throat still hurts from the smoke (i.redd.it)

We had someone in our drive-through flick a cigarette out their window and start a fire in the bushes. Our DM shut down mobile order for the rest of the day, and that was obviously equivalent to the standard procedure of closing and sending everyone home... 😑

That happened to a store near mine and they were advised to close for that day because of the smoke drifting towards them and those partners worked at my store for the day

Honestly thought we would have been approved to close until the fire was out, since it was behind a gas station. Oh whale 🐳

From the title I thought the whole block was on fire and your store might have been exposed to it and your SM still told you to work. From the picture it looks like it was a dumpster fire? Or maybe a building fire that looms pretty far away? Do you think that a dumpster fire across the street or parking lot or a building fire that is far away is a good reason to shut down the store?

If it’s bad enough that it is affecting the baristas’ breathing, as implied by the title, I would say yes.

I know it looks like a dumpster but that's actually a green semi lol

Our store is at a travel center out in the country. A junk yard behind the travel centers gas station caught on fire it was actually pretty bad. The reason why our lead wanted to close was because it was directly behind a gas station. But our store manager said to work through it, she wasn't on site to see it.

Ah I understand now. I didn’t realize it was right behind the gas station. That makes sense now. Thanks

I personally have a hard time believing that the smoke invaded your store but you also had the option to say you needed to leave and go home and use sick pay.

I work in California and let me tell you, when it’s fire season the smell of smoke gets everywhere, especially if the building’s air system isn’t that great. Last summer there was a brush fire two cities away and the air was so smokey that there was no escaping it

Yeah I live in TX and we dont have wildfires like Cali, but there are agricultural burnings that happen in Mexico and the smoke drifts all the way to my city and triggers the fuck out of my asthma. Smoke is no joke

Cali fire season is terrible they closed out door dining when I worked in the restaurant industry and boiiii people got mad when you said it’s not safe. Smoke gets in every building even your home.
