Hey, I just want to give you a heads up because I think I was in your shoes awhile ago, and I got really messed up my first year on insurance.

Even though you just signed up for benefits, you’re still going to need to sign up for benefits again when open enrollment starts next month. Whatever benefits you have right now will expire on September 30th of this year. It doesn’t matter if you sign up last month or six months ago, you still need to re-enroll next month.

Luckily the Benefits Center reopened my enrollment, but there was a few weeks when my insurance lapsed because I assumed it would roll over since I had “just signed up”.

Oh okay so even though I'm my Coverage STARTS Aug 1 I need to re enroll when Aug starts? They mentioned that when I called them for like just general info but I completely forgot, so once the NEW coverage starts after I re enroll I should make my appointment then?

Yeah, so your coverage starts August 1st and lasts until September 30th. Open enrollment for 2020-2021 health insurance is August 3 - 24th, I believe. You need to re-enroll during this time, and whatever you pick during August will go into effect on October 1st and last until September 30th, 2021.

Benefits are use them or lose them, so if your insurance starts on August 1st and you can get an appointment before September 30th, you should 100% do it. Using your benefits now will have no effect on what benefits are available to you in October. So say you chose a vision insurance plan that offers a credit for contacts or glasses, you could use the credit now and get glasses, do re-enrollment in August, and go back and use your new credit in October for contacts.

If you don’t get a physical card you can get your policy number from the website. If you go on mysbuxben.com it may be there or it will link you to the providers website where you could log in and see your info
