It’s just getting too hard (self.starbucksbaristas)

My store stayed open during Covid and I chose not to take cat pay. I’ve worked full time through all of this and all of the changes and it was manageable. But now with more and more opening up I’m at a loss for what more this company wants from it’s employees. I’m an SSV and I’m fairly confident in my abilities and like to think I bring my best self to work everyday and can handle high stress and pressure But it’s just getting so hard now. Every week our DM has us opening more up. More bathrooms opening. More cafe and patio seating. More opened public garbage cans. Every few days we get another cleaning task added to the list. Having to constantly be sanitizing the tables and chairs and bathrooms, monitoring every customer to wear a mask inside the store. It’s a lot. What’s making it impossible though is that our SM is being told they can’t over schedule us anymore. For weeks we had extra partners to handle our busy dt and to have a “line concierge” to manage the flow of people in and out of the store. Now we have bare minimum partners on the floor but our DM rolls in and has the audacity to ask me where my line concierge person is. If I have a 5 partner play and I’m the ssv and I have to do my pull it leaves 4 people on the floor. Cafe steadily has people walking in. Our dt is nonstop as well as mobiles. I feel so spread thin. There’s days where over half my shift we are hitting 40 plus customers per half hour and I only ever have 4-5 people on the floor because I have to run breaks and do my tasks. How can we properly maintain cleaning standards when it’s all hands on deck just trying to pump out the sheer volume of food and beverages we have coming in. And let’s not add in people just being awful about mask wearing in general, having to take that abuse everyday.... it’s just too much. Anyone else experiencing this?

This is every store. This is my answer to the partner survey every week. Do I feel like starbucks is giving tools to protect health? No!! How do I run breaks, help customers, and keep everyone safe with 3 people? 50+ customer half hours from 6am to 1030am, 40+ customers till 1pm, and 30+ till 5pm. My maximum People in the building is 5 until 1030, 4 til 1, and 3 thereafter. Everyone needs 10s and meals, opening shifts are doing monster pulls and our manager requires dating every sandwich individually so once they go on lunch I lose them until 1130, then there's the cold brew to fret over, all the prep, the fact that we are in go mode without a cs for 6 hours every day, and our freaking lobby is open for seating so I have to keep making sure junkies aren't dead in our bathrooms and telling the highly volatile homeless people that they have to keep a mask on. Yeah. I'm super safe.

Ugh I feel this so much. The monster morning pulls. Dating each individual sandwich. The constant struggle of the cold brew. Nearly every morning I’m doing my pull while putting cb into kegs at the same time. While wearing a headset hearing the partners getting overwhelmed on dt. I hate this place.

oh boy, do i feel you, and i am so sorry. i’ve been a barista for two years (started at 16) worked through the hazard pay period, and i’m on my way to ssv, but the burnout and the physical effects of stress are really taking a toll on my mental and physical health. i’m a closer, so all of the closing tasks on top of the sanitation cycles and other tasks we’re thrown has me going home beyond exhausted. shifts i work only have 4 people on the floor max, including the ssv, and our drive thru is nonstop from the moment we open to the moment we close, basically. my entire store is beyond stressed and fed up with shitty management and lack of care from our DM. it’s absolutely awful and i would never wish something like this on anyone... yet so many other stores are experiencing it. it’s atrocious. again, i am so sorry you’re experiencing this. your mental and physical health are worth so much more than what this company is giving us to work with.
