a late night venti (self.starbucksbaristas)

I was DTO/window and a customer orders a 6 shot espresso and he jokes around a bit at the box at the craziness of his drink (ofc I play along for that customer connection).

He arrives at the window, and I follow my routine: bring out the card reader, hand his drink as the card processes.... somewhere along the line we joke about smt again and it was nice.

Then he asks for a favor and I was like sure what is it. He holds up his empty cup trash from another food place, and I tell him “oh I can’t take your trash for sanitary reasons.” He freaks out (jokingly???) and says “i need to make room for my cup of espresso!!!” blah blah(note that he asked for his drink in a short cup so how much room do you really need?). Because I wouldn’t take it, he puts his disgusting cup on our ledge. I give his card back and insist that he take the cup back, and he (jokingly!!!??) freaked out again, kept saying no no no, and drove away :(

I just felt a little hurt and disrespected that he cared more about having room for a stupid small cup and didn’t take me seriously. I wish I didn’t hand him his drink already because I would have just told him that I’ll just give you a refund if you can’t take the drink without giving me your trash.

What would you have done in my situation? It all happened so fast... he really wasn’t going to listen to me.

I know it’s a small thing, and I eventually forgot about it and had a good shift but ya know, late night thoughts.

Also I hate gnats!!!!

I would’ve grabbed it with a napkin or something and literally throw it back through his window. And if he ever has the nerve to come back he pays first next time (he probably will because these people have no self awareness or sense of shame).
