What are your stores up-selling incentives? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by mikolin
Our store is brainstorming at creating an incentive for everyone if we beat goal in sales, what are some ways (if any) your managers chose to reward the store?

I know this doesn’t happen everywhere, and definitely didn’t happen at my last store, but I would like to have something good to look forward to.

I have never seen or heard an actual manager giving incentives for sales goals. The only time I’ve seen something even close was when I covered at this crazy busy drive through and I believe they got an actual bonus from corporate as a store and got to do fun things together as a team like going out to a dinner or going bowling.

This is what I heard but I know people will downvote me for this anyway but SMs have an allocated budget for store supplies and ‘partner relations’ per quarter or year. and whatever they don’t spend will go to their annual bonus. So it’s not ‘right’ per se but I can see how they might want to protect their bonuses.

Where did you hear that SMs will get the money that wasn’t used for partner relations added to their bonus? Because that’s not true. SMs don’t get the stores surplus.

If you know anything more, you let me know. I know you’re on here as an SM advocate so go off. I know for a fact that money rolled over from store supplies go to bonus because an SM actually said that out loud to a shift.

Well, that SM probably doesn’t know how bonuses are calculated. I was an SM for 5 years and the bonuses are calculated based on sales comps. Not stores budget and surplus. Having a surplus looks good on the SM and used for review purposes when it’s time for a raise, but it doesn’t go towards bonuses (or salary raises).

Your SM can call PRSC or ask their DM about it.

Do you think time has changed since you were an SM? I do try to keep an open mind since Starbucks always revises how they do things from policies to recipes. Thats why whenever I see somebody doing something ‘different’ (not wrong) I always try to clarify with them and perhaps come to a compromise or update them on the most current information available (if I’m not correct, then I’ll verify with a trusted source) Also while I have your attention here, sometimes I see you on here really beating people over the head and it’s not even about misinformation. This subreddit can be emotional and negative sometimes but it’s the nature of the job and we are human so hope to see more compassion from you going forward. :)

When I was an SM, every time my team beat the sales goals and I would get the bonus, I would take most of it and split it between my partners via Visa gift cards. Without my team I would never be able to get the bonus so it’s technically theirs to keep.

My current manager does little gifts for when we hit our goals (customer connection scores or sales or DT times) or sometimes even gift cards.

Just do what my SM does and threaten to write up anyone who doesn't offer food to every. single. customer!!! It's a great incentive!!!!!! ^^^^^^/s

My DM has tried pushing things, but there has never been any incentive attached to it. The DM wanted to try pushing specific items on each day of the week to try to track how well it was working. None of the baristas or SSVs cared, and thought it was weird to try to push something that didn't go with what someone had already ordered. We also thought there was no accurate way to track how successful the up selling attempts were.
