Comment If you live in the window because you just create “the best connections” 😂.(v.redd.it)

I live in window cuz I’m relatively new lol. Hired in February right before corona. I still connect with customers well but it’s draining to be at the window 24/7 talking to people who won’t even say thank you or look at you and acknowledge you as a person. I’ve been on cold bar a little more recently which is great though. I think being in any position for too long can be tiring but I like to keep moving and always be doing something so I’d rather be making drinks

Yeah, this was mainly just a joke to be joke but it use to be very true. I lived In the window for like 2 hour periods between breaks I would go to DTO and then be moved back to window. I like DTO because you can flex to cold bev. But as a window person, especially now. You aren’t allowed to grab anything with the Covid regulations. So if someone needs a water I have to yell for someone to get a water while I also maintain conversation haha. It gets tiring after awhile. There was one today I was window all day and then did dishes and that was it haha. But lately as I’ve grown I’ve gotten opportunities to do warming and even some bar time, but that’s because I asked my coworkers during dead hours in night shift to coach me to be faster. Our drive thru time expectations is 38-45 😳

Most of the time I spend my entire shift at the window. Occasionally I’d go to the front register which I hated but lately I’ve been dto more which I like bc I’m always busy. I hate feeling unproductive at the window bc I can’t touch anything. I think the last time I was on hot bar was right before corona lol. We just got a bunch of new hires though so hopefully that means I’ll be moving to other positions

Oh my goodness that’s a long time! Well while you are there I know you will make the most of the time you have there. Things will change I promise. ❤️

I actually left the company because I felt like I wasn’t getting enough time on bar, and It actually made me feel inadequate next to my fellow baristas. Plus my Shift in the morning was a total rude person and would only put me on window.
grahammygrahams [OP]5 points2y ago
Yeah some shift leads have admitted that when they don’t like someone they put them in the window 😂

oh man was this me when i started.... took me like a year before i could comfortably work every position because i was ALWAYS put on DTO/DTW since no one else likes it. it’s ultimately led to my resentment of this job. any time i get to bar or CS i (happy) cry internally lol

I was on pretty much nothing but window for the first six months. I wanted to bar SO BAD, but I stayed. I had been on cafe bar maybe a total of 10 times. Cut to my store being closed for a remodel, I go to a new store and no one can bar (they had callouts). They asked if I could bar and I said yes, and I ran their drive thru bar for the entirety of peak. Thank God I practiced my drink recipes religiously.

I don't get why most of my baristas don't like to be on register. Whenever I offer people the choice of POS or anything else they take anything else, and I'm just like ok you get to do the manual labor part of this job and I just get to talk to people all day.
ihateyousoymatcha6 points2y ago
Some of us aren't as social and don't like talking to people 🤗 I like talking with my coworkers but customers... Nah
grahammygrahams [OP]3 points2y ago
Talking to people all day can be so exhausting baha. Especially where I work, people are not very friendly sadly. When your body is moving less it makes time go by slower.
Yoncesdior1 points2y ago
I live on the pos cause I bring in the most tips :_(
official_koda_1 points2y ago
Working in the window is tiring mentally for people with social anxiety talking to customers. I can’t do it, so I’m put on bar. I absolutely hate talking to customers. Some coworkers like it for whatever reason.
Xomarianahh1 points2y ago
It’s the complete opposite for me haha, I live on bar and dread ever going to dtr, my customer connections aren’t my strong suit but when that 12 drink order of all frappuccinos and refreshers hit, while there’s a queue of 7 more Frappuccinos waiting for me, it gets exhausting. By the end of my shift my back is always killing me 😩
claireacosta941 points2y ago
I'm on DTO literally every day because no one else at my store has the patience to deal with these ridiculous ass customers lol.
ashinabi1 points2y ago
As someone who was put on bar every single shift, to the point I got tendinitis in my elbow from pumping syrups, yes it is exhausting. But I also don’t think I worked any harder than any other position.
grahammygrahams [OP]2 points2y ago
Totally, I get that people get back problems from grabbing the milk and stuff constantly too. You guys are amazing!
GymLeaderFlame1 points2y ago
Constantly window, DTO, and warming at the same time since “I’m just so good at juggling tasks”
dodofishman1 points2y ago
That's just how we usually do it bc it's a small DT only and we dont have the labor 😪 it's exhausting af but also kinda fun to see how fast you can go lmao
GymLeaderFlame1 points2y ago
I don’t know what level volume we’re considered lol we usually hit our sales and customer goals which tend to be (700-800 daily)
grahammygrahams [OP]1 points2y ago
That sounds exhausting, you sound like a great multitasker though!
GymLeaderFlame1 points2y ago
Lol more like we do 3 partner plays and the other partner is anti social and always grouchy
