What do baristas do when they forget a recipe?(self.starbucksbaristas)

Is there some kind of recipe book or so?

Typically ask another partner as it’s the quickest to do when on bar. If they don’t know run over to POS to see.

We have a stack of recipe cards on a ring in the store, although it’s not usually super accessible. The recipes are also on our iPad. Normally, we just ask, “does the cocoa foam get 2 pumps of mocha and 2 shakes?” If there seems to be a lot of disagreement on the floor we look at the POS or, as a last resort, check the actual recipe.

Wait.
You DON'T get a giant book that has all the recipes in it? Shit man, that's standard here in the EMEA side of things, it's a requirement to open a new store that has to arrive along with the giant cleaning information manual and the coffee & tea resource manual. I live by those books and ensure all my new baristas know where they are stored for quick reference and to aid in customers.
That's insane, I thought taht'd be a world wide thing

I trained at a store that had all those books and recipe cards, then I transferred to my actual store... I asked about recipe cards and they opened a drawer under the register that was full of cards all scattered around smh

Could't do that man, every time I have to go sort a managers store out and retrain them first thing I do is sort the cards out. Bev cards under DT fridge or spare fridge (if no DT), cleaning folder under the tills. Coffee & Tea cards go under the food area fridge, all staff learn that if thye got an issue they read the cards. Self learning is super important.

Been in one store that "Had" them. They pulled em from their filling cabinet and I kid you now, you;d of thought the entire brewer was just empited on top of them. Had to re order them all and reset them up, that was a nightmare of a store

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen baristas make drinks wrong. I usually try to tell them nicely, but they always ensure me that it was right. Popular one - in a sbux double shot on ice, they fill milk up to the top of the cup. I tell them it’s a splash and they hit me with a “no it’s not”. Like find the recipe card bish😂

I’m usually on the window so I don’t make drinks much but I asked my co worker on dto, isn’t a double shot on ice basically a latte? And she was like no it just gets a splash of milk and I was like that’s not a splash that whole cup is full to the brim.

God the arrogance of people just get's to me too mch in this job, I can deal with customers but staff are another matter >.> amount of times I whip the book out and yell "SEE" I could defo start my own tip jar

We do have a recipes on cards and on our store's ipad, but most often it's faster and easier to just ask another barista if they know the recipe.

In my original store as well as my previous store, I was able to use the resourceful beverage recipe cards that were kept together by a ring. But I came to my current store and they said they were switching from the cards to the ipad. But we still get new beverage cards for the new drinks so I think every store should have them, and keep them updated when recipes change or get added!

Personally I ask my bar buddy, or the partner on window (as they are right next to bar) and if neither of them know I am guilty of guessing
