New hire looking for advice!(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by mlle-michelle
Hi, I've just been hired by my local Starbucks, and can't wait to learn about all the different recipes and what makes the coffee shop run...but I'm also nervous, any advice for a new partner looking to make a good impression?

Be ready to make lots of mistakes and to be put to work long before you actually feel ready and prepared for it. That’s just how it is. Make mistakes, make messes, learn, and try not to repeat the same mistakes.
Don’t feel bad about asking coworkers for recipes you can’t quite remember, or help in general.

As a barista trainer I tell all the people I am training that “the only stupid question is the one that isn’t asked.” You’re coming into a lot of stuff you need to know. No one is going to expect you to know everything right away. Ask questions make cheat sheets but if they don’t ask you, tell your trainer how you learn! If you need to be hands on tell them, if you need to see it a few times and then you got it, do that.

Hey I’m new too and I’m on my third day of training. It’s great! Don’t be afraid to ask your trainer ALL the questions (even if you’ve asked them the same one like 10 times already...esp if you’re on bar). Other commenters are right when they say be ready to make mistakes! I dumped wayyyy too many drinks today. It’s a lot to learn and it can get overwhelming, but everybody was in your spot at one point. You got this

Any time that you find yourself with a moment free, make yourself available to your coworkers. Ask if they need you to grab anything or if there’s anything you can do to help them out. They will need it, all day long!
