HOW DID KIWI STARFRUIT EVER EXIST??? (self.starbucksbaristas)

Like how did it pass through so many teams of taste testers and marketing executives??? I finally tried some expecting it to be bad, but not thaaaat bad. 0/10 would not recommend, would not sell to any customer. I didn’t mind the Jolly Rancher smell, but the chemical taste induced flashbacks of being in a hospital. I tasted the dog food looking inclusions which were soooo strong in taste. Who let this even get to this point? There are so many other drinks that would have been better. I’m glad if Starbucks loses money on it. They should for the stupid decision not to kill it in the first place.

For real... the initial taste is fine. You know you’re going to get ppl on IG and tiktok comparing it to apple jolly ranchers and midori sours, if only via association with the color and the fruity taste. That aftertaste is harsh tho... even with lemonade and with coconut milk, it’s very noticeable

the ONLY good thing about this is the inclusions themselves. throw those kiwi pieces in with some water and some strawberries? wow. delicious. refreshing.
but otherwise. i question why it still exists. it’s just bad. no better way to say it.

I did it up with lemonade, pineapple ginger: liked it

To be fair, all you really did was flavor-blast it with other strong flavors. Add lemonade, pineapple ginger and guava to mop water and it will also taste amazing.

Surprisingly though, it’s pretty popular in my area. People were kinda disappointed when we told them it was recalled. Idk if it’s a Latino thing...? Like, most of our team are Asians and the only customers I’ve seen ask for a refund or a new drink were Asians, but our Latino guests tell us that they love it.

As a Latino myself, Hispanics are *addicted* to our refreshers. It stems from sugar and carb addiction that is passed down from generation to generation.
They assume our refreshers are basically Agua Fresca. When, in fact, our refreshers have *way* more sugar and artificial ingredients and are way worse for you.

Tastes like an energy drink that someone JUST dropped an edible jolly rancher in and it's only dissolved a little bit. And the aftertaste is indescribable.

Also the salted honey foam is garbage. Who the hell gave the okay for that. At least it should’ve been made with sweet cream instead of milk.

I just hate it because it’s too sweet like the other refreshers. I also hate it that I have to drink coconut milk just to have it water down the sweetness and I hate coconut milk/alternate milks

I haven't tried it with lemonade or coconut milk yet, but you'd be hard pressed trying to find me selling it. I will whole heatedly recommend the GPD or the pink drink, but I will NEVER recommend the kiwi starfruit drink. Ever.
I work in a kiosk in a grocery store, and we have announcements for new items. Anything else I'll do (impossible sandwich, GPD, the new cold brews with cold foam, etc.), but I will not be announcing this drink under any circumstances.

i get tired of people acting like their taste perception is the only one that is correct. obviously enough people liked it in the focus groups they deemed it sellable. no matter how much you hate it, somebody likes it.

I don’t say my perception is amazing. I really wanted to like it. But it had such a chemical taste. Perhaps it was just a bad batch. I had 2 other coworkers taste it as well and they had the same reaction.

It's got a floral taste. I don't think we're in the minority to say that most people wouldn't like it. That being said, I understand what you're saying and agree. I don't like cold brews, lattes, teas, etc. but will happily promote them because I know a lot of people do like them. I couldn't think any less of the kiwi starfruit though... I don't understand it at all.
That being said, I won't tell people it's bad. I don't think I'd actively promote it since I don't believe it's all that good, but I won't say it's bad. I haven't tried it with coconut milk or lemonade yet either, so I won't knock those.
