Interested in becoming a new partner? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by MaiMuse
I’ve worked as a server, got furloughed and found a new job in a medical office. Funny enough, I don’t think sitting down is for me. Going back to my server job isn’t an option,

1. I’m interested in the school benefit
2. I’ll be willing to do FT
3. I’m getting paid $14, wondering what starting pay is, and how hard it is to earn a raise?
4. I live on my own and don’t like my job, wondering if I can just quit or should I double job for now if I got hired?

Sorry so wordy and many questions, I’ve all I got to survive lol.

I wouldnt quit. I am not able to pay my rent by myself with just this job. The tips are not what you'll be used to as a server. At my store they range between 1.20 to 1.60/hr. Never more than 2/hr. And that's at holiday. Starting wage is maybe a few cents above min. wherever you are. Honestly, it's worth it for me because my partner doesn't get health insurance through their work and starbucks insurance is pretty good. Also if you wanted to take advantage of the schooling it would totally be worth it not to be 50K in debt by the time you're done. It really just depends on whether you can get a roommate or work another job that allows you to pay your bills in the meantime.

Thank you for the honest advice and insight! Yeah my partner atm has been furloughed and not received a word back from their job, so me jumping to something that might be significantly less than what I make now? Rough. I’m more bright eyed for the school debt free benefit part lol. Thank you, I hope everything works out for you and your partner as well!

The pay is garbage. I don’t know how anyone could live on there own with only Starbucks pay. I don’t know anybody at my store who lives on there own who doesn’t have another higher paying job. Also at Starbucks even full time hours can’t totally be a given, like you could get thirty one week. This jobs definitely good if you want to be on your feet, you’re constantly moving around in a fast paced environment.
