Uh, Any Other Barista Having to Move BC they can’t afford to live in their current area, have their transfer request denied????? (self.starbucksbaristas)

So, I don’t want to be a barista. I don’t think any barista does right now? But I show up every day because I love my coworkers.
Most importantly, I need a job.
But I also need a place to live!!
My landlords are selling their property, and in my current town you need to be making 3x rent. Idk how many people are hustling THAT hard in a pandemic (I am sure you are out there, I see you, hang in there buddy) but I am not in that financial position.
So I have to move to a new state with a relative (who has been SO generous in helping me) so I can have a place to live.
I’m two days away from driving out of here and I was just informed my transfer request was “denied”. To a store whose manager told me they actually *needed* baristas desperately.
.. fuck me??????????????

did they say why your request was denied?
call the dm of the area your moving to and see if they can help you find a spot. they should know who needs people and who doesnt

It’s really sketchy!! At first they said my thing was denied because I “didn’t go through the proper channels”—a manager who was at an in-need store, knowing I was looking for a new home store, called me and took the lead on getting me taken care of.
So naturally I reached out to my uh formerly “new” manager and she said it was denied after they connected, which raises more red flags for me. It doesn’t really make sense; I haven’t even had so much as a write up in my last year
Edit: I am currently waiting on my DM and SM to get back to me. This is not a casual start to my weekend lmao..

yeah that doesn't make much sense at all... something is up i think you should try calling the dm of the new area ur moving too and explain what happened and see if they can get u into a store. or maybe call PCC and see if they have anything they can do for u

Did you tell your store manager the specifics? It sucks have to to divulge sensitive info, but I can’t imagine telling an SM that I need to transfer or I will be homeless and have them just ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ at me.

I'm moving to Chicago for college and I called the store I would be ttransferring and they told me that that store isn't accepting transfer requests due to COVID, which makes no sense. When I get there, I'm going to have to quarantine for 14 days. Do I call again and tell them that I'm quarantining?

I’m glad I’m not the only dealing with this but what the fuck.
Anyone still employed reading this, remember how they treat you when they are done with you/: I’ve lost all my health insurance, therapy, etc. and it was literally all I had left in this point.
They’re calling it a resignation too so I don’t even get severance.

Granted I did talk to my manager, and she said I can be rehired during winter breaks and summer for a couple weeks of pay and work
