Starbucks Baristas: The daily grind

Full History - 2020 - 08 - 10 - ID#i7a55l

Our stores AC has been broke since last night and it is 90 in our store. I messaged my SM and DM that baristas and customers are complaining. Our computers in the back room are over heating and when I told them this they said “do you have any fans to put on the floor” the answer is no. (i.redd.it)

call psrc right now. this is rediculous

Also in that kind of heat, customers and maybe even Baristas are more prone to taking off their masks which adds even more fuel to the fire.

The fans that no one ever ever thinks to clean? I cleaned a few myself recently and they were so horrific inside, and we’ve all been breathing that air in for months. I’d refuse to work under those conditions. Our AC barely works and I’m almost immediately covered in sweat, i can’t even imagine it not working at all. Minimum wage to get a heat stroke? Nahhhhh.

I can’t imagine working in those conditions unnecessarily. I would contact partner resources and I believe you can stay anonymous too

Update: they had us go and buy 4 box fans till the ac guy after I said I was gonna call PCRS. They rushed it, so now we are back to normal.

I would've just called. Idk what PCRS is but if they cant do their job without being scared of it then they dont need to be in that position.

ours broke too, but our sm let us shut down early that day even after we bought a ton of box fans (like that's gonna help though). the AC guy was out the next day i think.

it's wild that so many starbucks is having their ac break.
gummyburr22 [OP] 1 points 2y ago
That is wild. I can’t believe so many stores are having this issue

This happened to us a few days ago, we didn’t get fans until the day the AC got mostly fixed. We suffered 3 days without AC. I almost passed out and so did many of my coworkers. Also I work in FL so it was rough man
gummyburr22 [OP] 1 points 2y ago
That is insane, I would have called out or called and said that’s an unsafe work environment
hufflepuffisonfleek 2 points 2y ago
My shifts we constantly calling facilities, one of them even mentioned that the problem had been called in five days ago, but nothing had been done about it. Also I really love my coworkers and I was a closer so, no call outs for me.....
gummyburr22 [OP] 1 points 2y ago
I’m a closing manager so I know how it feels not to be able to call out. It’s ridiculous, like Starbcuks is a good company but in the end they are evil Corporation but like damn at least give us a good environment to work.
retsehassyla 2 points 2y ago
Nah I’d call this unsafe working conditions and not come in
dodofishman 2 points 2y ago
My stores crew would riot if this happened, Im sorry!!! This isnt ok!!
darkwolf523 1 points 2y ago
That’s normal for my store. Our back room is always hot. Idk how some of my co workers can stand it back there

This happened to me recently. I was the opening shift and too scared to stand up for myself and my partners by saying “it’s too hot. I can’t handle these working conditions. I’m leaving”. I didn’t encourage others to take that initiative either. We were forced to open and operate as usual. It took 5 hours before fans arrived.
After reporting my DM to pcc for an unsafe work environment, I was told (by said DM) that I had every right to walk out of my shift *as soon as another keyholder arrived*.
Basically, I hope every partner reading this knows they have the right to stand up for themselves in this situation.
