Partner ID theft (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by TheRosyEgoist
Hey, all, so I see all over the internet that people are gonna start requiring partner ID cards or whatever since people are using our numbers off of receipts for stuff, but my store has never had anything like that before so what should we do? I know other stores in our district have little cards with partner info on them but is that something our SM has to do themself? Follow up: if the SM has to make the cards homemade, what stops people from making fake ones? :( this has been really stressing me out so apologies if this didn’t make sense

The least confrontational way to verify identification is to ask them for their full name rather than ask them to verify the name associated with the partner number. So when someone gives you their partner number, you can just say, “Okay and what is your name?” and they’d say, “thatsmysharpie”, rather than you going, “Okay, and you’re thatsmysharpie?” and them going, “Yes!” If I feel suspicious, I like to throw out the, “What store do you work at?”

The receipts only show partner numbers, not the partner’s name.

My manager is asking us to check ID cards. Our first names are on our aprons, so just the first name is not enough. It also stops people from using a friend or family member’s numbers.

If your manager is asking you to check IDs then you should. But not everyone’s manager is at that point yet, like OP’s store.

And I was suggesting the full name, I thought that was clear. My bad. And it’s true that it doesn’t prevent friends & family, but the issue right now that everyone worries about is the TikTok “hack” of stealing our partner numbers off receipts. Those people won’t be likely to remember your name or have the forethought to write it down, or know your whole name.

As far as I know Starbucks did away with the physical partner cards. I tried requesting one on the hub but it wasn’t possible. You can get a digital one that links to your Starbucks mobile app. It acts like any other ‘card’ on the app but the picture is of the apron, signifying you work there.
Or you know, you could use any other form of ID if they want to get picky about making sure it’s you. But this gets tricky if your preferred name through Starbucks doesn’t match your ID.

If it looks like someone is reading off the partner numbers, aka doesn’t have them memorized so probably isn’t actually the partner, I’ll ask for the partner card or ID.

It’s done through my partner info.
You can add that card to your app, and you’re set

It's always been company policy for you to have your ID checked if you're using your partner numbers without a physical partner card.

Best way around this is to link your partner numbers to your card in the app since you're the only one who can do that. You go into my partner info and follow the prompts there.
