Calling out sick and guilt (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by gjroberts93
Does anyone else feel like there’s this overwhelming pressure to never call out, what with all the understaffing and such?

I feel like shit this morning and I called out from an opening shift. I don’t have anyone else’s number really so I wasn’t able to secure a replacement, and besides I felt unwell and wanted to get back to sleeping it off asap.

I could have gone in and suffered through it but I already don’t like being there when I’m not feeling bad, so I would have been miserable, but I feel very guilty for leaving my coworkers to open without me.

Better to call off than to make everyone else sick and make the staffing situation even worse. They will figure it out. Hope you feel better!

I think that’s the worst part, when I woke up again a few hours later I felt like 80% better. It must have been something I ate, rather than being actually sick. Oh well I guess.

Never feel bad about calling in sick. It is also not your responsibility to find coverage if you are sick.

That’s by design.
