Closing shift (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by -dys-functional
So I transferred stores pre covid closures. At my old store I closed 4-5 times a week (I'm a barista, not a shift) and I never had any complaints. My new store however wants to get someone else to shadow me to see if I'm doing closures correctly.

Usually it is just me and the shift so I'm usually the one doing the actual cleaning.

My closings usually look like:

dishes,

pilling the espresso machines,

Cleaning said espresso machines

cleaning the steam wands,

filling up then emptying the coffee containers,

Sweeping

Garbage run

Turning off, and cleaning oven

Restocking fridges

Making sure there are backups for anything low

Setting up containers for tea and iced coffee

Am I missing something?

it's probably not that you're missing something necessarily. you might just not be closing how that particular crew likes to close. i wouldn't take this shadowing as an insult or a complaint but a chance to learn the closing cadence of an unfamiliar store. let them show you how they want closings done.

Some of these things you can do before you actually close the doors. Also I don't know if your store mops at the end of the night or if the openers do that. But you can always ask why they want to shadow you. It doesn't hurt to ask if there is anything you can do better. Communication is key, hopefully they are open with you and don't mind telling you.

cleaning bathrooms, mopping lobby/FOH/BOH?

Bathrooms belong to chapters, so they clean them. Mopping is done in the morning. Sorry not sure what the others are

After you close the doors of the store to the public, how long does it take you do all these steps for closing?!?!? I usually do all cleaning and the shift managers counts money etc. I get 15 to 30 mins max but they get mad if I pass 20 mins. I don’t know if I’m slow or if I need help

I don’t understand why they’re not just telling you the things they want you to fix and then shadowing you if it doesn’t get fixed
