Hi I am going to be transferring to a different state. But the area around where I am going to live (Long Beach, CA) are mostly cafe only stores. I have worked at 2 different stores both with very busy drive thru and I was wondering what the opinion on cafe only stores are? Would I be bored? Is it possible to have a busy cafe only store atm? Should I consider it if I want to constantly be busy?

It’s going to depend where the cafe store is located in the city. For example, I work in a big city in south central Texas, but our location on a busy street makes it sort of difficult to get into, and it’s not super obvious that a Starbucks is located in a little strip mall area. Most people also don’t want to get down at all even for mobile orders, so they just pass us up to go to the nicer, more obvious Starbucks that has a drive thru. Because of that, our sales die down extremely after our morning rush. I’m talking like 4-6 customers in a half hour slow. My baristas and I stay busy by cleaning and getting all back ups down for the morning shift, but there will be times where there isn’t much else to do.
edit: I should also mention that indoor seating is not available at my cafe only store! we’re located in a covid hot spot, so people can only sit outside. However, the constant 100 degree plus weather keeps most people away.

I doubt you’ll get bored as cafes usually have less people working. You have to do a lot more multitasking. I’ve had up to 10 people working at once at my high volume cafe. The bonus is that most cafes make more in tips as it can be easier to create best moments with customers.

I work at a café and I couldn’t even imagine working at a drive-through. I feel like it’s so much more stressful at a drive-through

I currently live in this area at the moment and I work by the beach and it is still very busy at cafe only stores.

Hi! I work in Long Beach, CA at a high traffic drive thru. Your experience at a cafe is highly dependent on location. I covered at a high traffic cafe in the area and if you’re quick and good at multitasking you’ll do fine. The only downside to high traffic cafe stores is that they don’t have headsets and it makes communication harder. While working at a low traffic cafe store down the street, it was super boring but it’s nice if you like to talk to people and connect.
