Your wrist starts to really hurt after barring for hours on end. I’d 10000% rather do dishes, and not with scalding water because I know how to work a faucet.

My store likes using the faucet on full hot. I guess it’s different everywhere.

But you can change it yourself if you're the one doing dishes though?

A lot of the time we’re placed on bar because we’re “good at it”, so rather than place someone new and us on a spot like window, where our “skills” are being unused, they’d rather just throw us in a position where we’d be doing well because no one else (apparently) can be placed there without getting overwhelmed/the store becoming a mess. That repetitive motion though, starts hurting my shoulders, my lower back, my feet, my wrists/arms.

After the 5th or 6th day on bar with no breaks my back and shoulders are screaming in pain. It's so hard on the body. I LOVE bar but a break every now and then would be nice 😂😂

Thing is they tell me I’m good at bar and just place me elsewhere because nobody else wants to do anything but bar. They act surprised when I keep up with them, simply because I’m never put there. I really don’t mind the physical side effects because it beats staying in one place where the most physical aspect is reaching over to hand things out.

this post is so genuinely puzzling lmao.....doing anything for 6-8 hours straight is exhausting and undesirable. bar can be particularly stressful because you’re kind of in the hot seat, especially during a rush. you just sound like someone who never gets to be on bar and you’re salty about it — talk to your supervisor! ask for bar time! or pull the stick out of your ass and let people rant lol
soyu--3 points2y ago
My shifts are aware. I never complain when I’m on bar. It isn’t stressful for me. I’m fast and accurate. They just like it when I do other things /shrug

This is how I felt when I didnt get a lot of bar time. But now that I'm there ALLLLLLLLLLL the time it would be nice to change up the floor every once and a while

some baristas may want to but they aren’t fast or good enough for rushes so baristas like me are left there for hours, personally my shoulders start hurting. i’ve asked some shifts to move me but they say we don’t have the people to do that. maybe next time think before u post :o

Don’t worry lmao I gave it plenty of thought. I keep up with everyone else but I’m placed elsewhere because nobody else wants to do those roles but then dread the hell out of bar. The physical side effects of grabbing milk out of the fridge, looking down to finish drinks, taking fraps out of the blender and cupping shitty dome lids does not bother me. Lol
naadzzz5 points2y ago
may not bother u but that doesn’t apply to everyone who works at sbux

Honestly this post is kinda condescending/ignorant

Standing in one place for a long time can be hard on the legs and back. I’m a really long term partner and super good on bar but I don’t want to do it all day, everyday. And has it dawned on you that maybe you’re not as awesome as you think you are and they’re just trying not to hurt your feelings when they put you somewhere else?

😂😂😂😂😂

Do nothing but bar for 3 months straight and you’ll see why people complain about being on bar lol

6-8 hours seems like a long time to be doing one thing. I can understand complaints from anyone having to do 1 task for 8 hours, whether that’s solo drive, washing dishes, CS, etc.
soyu-2 points2y ago
Your point is valid. I guess for me, I’m bored out of my mind if I don’t have brain stimulating tasks at work.
[deleted] [OP]1 points2y ago
Brain stimulating.... working at Starbucks? Unheard of lol

What?!!

Tic toc has made bar a friggin’ foamy nightmare.

The shifts at my store are really good at making sure everyone is comfortable in their position. I love both drive and bar but somedays I'm just not feeling the socialness of drive and other days my brain is way too overwhelmed to bar.
