‘Do you want to round up 3 cents for the Cup Fund?’ ‘Ummm, no thanks’ WTF (self.starbucksbaristas)

I do not round up for the Cup Fund.

Dude, I am a single person living alone in an expensive city making $11.59/hr. Starbucks is a 30-billion-dollar company. If they wanted to take care of their employees, they would. Especially during a global pandemic when hours are cut, my first priority is to not be homeless or starve.

I do donate to charity. Actual charity. Non-profit organizations that have missions I believe in that do good in the world. Starbucks is not a non-profit and I don't feel comfortable with them asking me for money that they can parcel out to employees.

If rounding up makes you feel good about yourself, that's great. You should do that. Don't be a bitch about someone else's three cents.

Feeling good about myself isn’t the reason I donate. Go get a different job in the fast food sector and see how they treat you. There probably isn’t even an option to apply for help in the event of a personal catastrophe/tragedy. This is not giving to Starbucks; it’s partners helping other partners. To your point: corporations are not, in fact, charities. Maybe you should take advantage of the free ASU and take a business class.

My rule of thumb, since I already donate some of every paycheck to the Cup fund, is if the round up amount is under 50 cents it’s an automatic yes.

Haha that’s my exact policy

What is the "cup fund" anyway ?

Caring Unites Partners..it’s a fund for partners in need. I knew an SM whose house burned down and they gave her a grant. That’s just one example. (Lol I just googled Starbucks Cup Fund and the story that pops up is hers). We used to only be able to contribute through payroll deductions but now we have the opportunity to help people every time we make a partner purchase. I think with COVID it’s more important than ever.

It was also started by partners (baristas) and run by partners as well (not corporate people, actual partners who were baristas).

Look. I make 9.25 an hour and, because of COVID, make 10 dollars a week in tips. I have multiple mental illnesses that cost 930 a month to treat and rent in a big city to pay, on top of food, gas, and utilities. I have a 30 dollar a month budget for non necessities and I’m already spending more than I make just with those costs. If you want to donate, that’s great, but don’t judge me for wanting to stay alive, especially when I have to fight every day just to want to stay alive.

If you’re three cents from financial disaster try sweeping under the registers
