My store was infamously poor at training their baristas. I didn’t have an actual trainer and got passed around. It’s been a year since I started and I STILL haven’t finished bar training on the computer!
All that being said: you got this

Me too, I never finished!!! Do we get in trouble?

I mean, my bar basics are 400 days overdue and I haven’t been told off yet sooo

It helped me a lot to look through the menu on the Starbucks app! There are also so many charts that baristas have made that you can just google and find!

I wrote the ratios on my hand in sharpie for a few months. Just a simple chart. It looks similar to this. Abbreviations: S-shots, P-pumps, I-iced, H-Hot, T-tall, G-grande, V-venti, Tr-trenta
T. G. V. Tr SI. 1. 2. 3..................................................... SH. 1. 2. 2..................................................... PI. 3. 4. 6. 7....................................... PH. 3. 4. 5
It's also important to note that I'm dyslexic so I really needed a visual to look at to help remember bc the numbers got mixed up in my head. I usually did it in sharpie bc you can wash your hands quite a bit before it washed off. You could also talk to your shift about having a stinky note with you that you can put on the espresso machine to reference while on bar. One of the old shifts would write the ratios on empty cups that I could keep stacked on top of the bar and pull it out and look at it if i needed a reference. If you communicate with your shift that you are having issues remembering, they will help you with finding the easiest way for you to succeed. Everyone wants you to be successful and will more than likely figure out ways to help you. We have all been there at one point and remember how difficult it was. I still have to run over to the POS to look at the up order menu screen to see what goes in drinks but I have coworkers who use their Starbucks app to see what goes in a drink because if you go to order it, it tells you exactly what's in it and how many pumps/scoops. I hope this helps :)
Also remember that the skill check is just so they can get an idea what you are strong with and what you still need help with so they make sure you get the training that you need and not waste time on things you are strong in. I just wanna repeat, everyone wants you to be successful and will probably have no problem helping you figure out how to do that. You are probably doing way better than you think you are. We tend to see only the negative stuff instead of the positive stuff. So even if you need more work on bar, you are probably pretty strong on a different position. I wasn't very good with taking orders on DTO but was ready good at warming. You are doing great, it's only your first week, it will get easier, I promise ❤️

You're right! I usually don't put it bc we don't actually ever get drinks in short sizes except for the occasional kids hot chocolate. My bad :) thanks for updating my chart!
