Sleeves Are For Hot Drinks(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by NegativeOccasions
I still haven’t gotten used to people asking me for sleeves for their cold drinks. I hate it. Sleeves are for hot drinks. Stop being a little bitch.
And that’s my TED talk.
Edit: Sleeves are acceptable in this case if:
1) they are reusable and reduce waste 2)they are MEANT for a cold cup
Edit 2: Also acceptable for people with disabilities that cannot properly hold a cold cup without a sleeve.

I had a sleeve ready to go for an iced drink because the customer in the window asked for it... my SM (who’s on drive bar) hands me the drink I need, snatches the sleeve & LITERALLY THROWS IT across the counter & snaps at me & says “yOu DoNt NeEd ThIs” and I go ...... “ma’am... the lady asked for one...” like I’m very aware sleeves don’t go on iced drinks no need to throw it like that 🙄

Rude. Let your SM deal with the fallout of that next time😂

You shouldve just played dumb and told the customer your store manager said sleeves arent for cold drinks.
SMs are way too in peoples faces all the time, especially when they're aware they barely know how to do shit.

And they don't really FIT on cold cups... just use a napkin and move on from the sleeve, people.

Even though it is a waste of plastic, I think it makes more since to ask for a double cup on some cold drinks. The sleeves only cover the bottom and I personally do not hold drinks at the bottom

Yeah I totally get it but some of my regulars are old/really shaky, especially one in particular who has Parkinson’s and the sleeves help to reduce the drink slipping out of their hands, but those customers are really the only exception

There are always exceptions ,for sure, especially people with disabilities. But if I have 20 year old Sarah across the bar asking me for a sleeve for her venti iced green tea latte, then I have an issue 😂

Not all disabilities are visible

I have this customer who comes every once a week and gets a MDR venti double cupped with a sleeve
NegativeOccasions [OP]8 points2y ago
Ridiculous. People don’t realize how much of an absolute waste it is and it pisses me off.

I mean you don't know what someone has going on. My hands shake but no one else can see it but it's bad enough to make things difficult. Having the cold cups on my fingers makes my fingers shake worse and hurt and get weaker. But I'm 21 so it just looks like im pretentious. Maybe don't judge people you don't know.

I had customers tell me they soak up the condensation on cup!
peroporquee3 points2y ago
I appreciate your edit, but we should try not to judge especially towards younger people who might have a disability. I know someone who has to use a sleeve because of how sensitive her hands are to the cold. It’s the same with straws. It doesn’t hurt to just hand it out

Or even a reusable cold cup sleeve
NegativeOccasions [OP]-2 points2y ago
It does but it’s such a waste and if you’re really that uncomfortable about a little water getting on your hands, you can get a double insulated reusable cold cup. Even with COVID, they can pour their drinks into their reusable cups and have us recycle the plastic cup we were forced to use for their drink

It makes me so uncomfy!!

Not wanting your hands to get too cold or wet is for little bitches but not wanting your hands to get too hot is fine?
