first off, i am a 17 year old and i just finished my training last week. sbux is my second job, as i was laid off back in march from another customer service job. i knew training was going to be a lot, so i worked my ass off all last week to essentially prove to my other partners that i can stand my ground as the only minor in my store.

anyway, all last week all my other partners kept complimenting me on how hard im working and how fast i was catching on.

anyway, last night i worked my first real shift (closing w two other partners), and was on reg for most of it. we were hella busy, to the point where it only died down ab 45 minutes to close (my sm said that we were as busy as a saturday afternoon, at a mall btw).

then once we were all closed and walking out, my sm complimented me and said that if he didnt see me training last week he would have thought i had transfered from another store after working for at least a year or so.

i know theres been a lot of debate over minors working in stores, but ig i just wanted to show that all minors arent trash and working with amazing partners is possible. yeah part of my excitement is from being new, but this is my second customer service job and i see it as a new challenge to prepare me for my actual career after college.

so anyway, shoutout to every partner out there who takes the time to compliment eachother and work to make your location fun. i can already tell that where im at is a great store. even when a karen tells me she doesnt need “attitude” when i say even if shes waiting for a drink she has to keep her mask on.

I am going to give you some advice that sounds absolutely totally counterproductive, but please hear me out.

You've proven yourself. Now relax.

Never stop working hard, but don't feel like you constantly have to go above and beyond (people will take advantage of you). Never stop doing your best, but stop feeling like you have to prove yourself (you already did, and people who don't believe you never will). Don't push yourself constantly or you'll burn out, and this job will do its best to goad you into doing that anyway. Don't feel like you need to be first in line for terrible shifts, for overtime, for tasks no one wants to do, just to "prove" that you're better than all the lazy teenagers. Don't let anyone take advantage of your work ethic.

You are a brilliant star of a human, but you are only human. Protect yourself, because no one is going to do it for you.

YES! i was a minor working at starbucks (i turned 18 while still working there) but luckily there was someone close to my age working there too! my managers and the other partners were so positive and helpful and i made so many friends. i was able to learn rly quickly and it is the best job i’ve ever had!
