He’s probably very lonely.

This. We have a very specific Frappuccino lady who finds faults in her drink truly arbitrarily. I’ve (accidentally) made her drink wrong, and she’s called it “perfect” while other partners will follow her modifications to a T and she goes, “There’s just something off.”

She holds DT up while we remake her drink, but always wants to chat with partners, even going so far as to give her phone number. She’s married and she had kids, but I suspect she gets very little attention at home. So instead she orders a ridiculous (and truly disgusting) frappe so she can chat with some other adults for a few minutes.

Annoying, and sad, and I try to be nice but it’s not my job to fill a void in her life, I’m just trying to make one frappe at a time

With costumers who have constant complaints I ask them to try it right now, in-front of me, to know if I did it to their taste. I’d say “I want to make it right for you, so let me know how you like it and if this is wrong, I will remake it right now so you don’t have to come back.” Telling then how you remade the drink, and then following with “I’ll let the other baristas know how you like it.” Also, just remembering and mentioning their name also make them realize we know their trick, and it will not work anymore.

If they’re an ass, and know nothing is wrong and decide to stick to it and say to do a remake so their trick continues to work. I ask for their drink and say “I’ll throw that out for you”, and throw it into the trash in-front of them. Then give them the remake.

Just set it to the side and wait until he gets there to make it. See if he wants to chat while you work on it. I mean hell, if you're gonna have to interrupt your flow to remake it anyway, just let the remake be the original make.

How long does it sit there when he picks it up? I wonder if he doesn’t just want a remake so it’s hot.

He usually shows up within 10-15 minutes of ordering.
