COVID 19 Official Policy questions. (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by BirryButton
Does Starbucks have a place i can find COVID 19 policies that are updated. I found their site that was last updated July 9, 2020. My questions comes from our DM coming to our store saying we have to let people use our bathrooms and we can no longer have people in the drive through wear their mask. Prior to the the information that came out (Here in Los Angeles) was the customer cannot use the restroom unless they are emergency personnel, and the customers coming through the drive must only be served if they have a mask on. (if they dont have one we have masks to give them.) Now she instructed us to leave of restroom open for customers and one for partners "so we dont get sick". completely disregarding that the bathroom must be cleaned and stocked by partners as well. She couldn't furnish proof that these changes are coming from corporate and her reasoning is she kept saying "Well, the science says that \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_" basically trying to say we are safe enough.

I'm sorry this is so long and i know baristas right now are all going through rough shit. I feel you, but i want to be safe and well informed.

TLDR : My DM is passing down confusing information that conflicts what is on Starbucks website COVID 19 policy and i want need a updated site or information on policy changes.

Thank you so much, we are in this together.

From SoCal too, but not LA.

Our city currently has no dine in and a mask ordinance that specifically covers drive thrus. Your manager is not going to be able to furnish documents that back up what they’re saying because corporate cannot make rules that surpercede local laws. You should call Ethics & Conpliance to report it anonymously or you can call PRC and simple “inquire” after these new rules that your manager seems unable to produce.

“Oh, that’s weird, because my manager told us...”

Info is in the Covid resources. it's on the front page when you log into partner hub.

There's a lot that's being left to the discretion of DMs and SMs based on local emergency orders and mandates. And some of the info is only available to SMs and DMs. Try clicking on it and it says access denied.

What bothers me in many of the references to "the science" is that there is no citation to a peer reviewed scientific article. When I try to find support for some of the claims I hit a brick wall.

I can’t speak to the drive through but that’s probably local ordinance.

As far as bathrooms go, health code in most places require you to have working restrooms available to the public in any establishment that offers sit down eating. So if your cafe is open, I would expect that may be driving that.

Here in LA no one is allowed to "dine in". Strictly pick up orders only as all restaurants and eateries are still closed if they have indoor food service. Thus the rule for no bathrooms I believe. Even my grocery store bathrooms are closed. I guess its hard to say just because the COVID 19 protocol is so vastly different due to infection rates.

Yeah, your DM sounds like he’s making shit up then. Maybe call PRC?
