So, I’m a new green bean almost a month at Starbucks.
Today was my first happy hour and it honestly blew, excepted as much though.
But it’s also pushed me to realize I’m not sure if I’m capable of handling what Starbucks throws at me for what they pay me. I’ve worked retail for years and food service for a few years as well and I’ve honestly had the worst time at Starbucks.
So as you all know happy hour can get intense as orders start flying in. During some time we ran out of ice - uh oh. My SM said we can’t sell any iced drinks - and that’s understandable. I’m having to let customers know and obviously some aren’t happy. But there were customers who wanted something like a black iced tea or iced chai even if we didn’t have the ice.. my SM told me we weren’t even allowed to do that - so I’m over here lost having to tell customers in my drive thru that we can’t sell that to them.. like is that policy or something? Cause I’m trying to get the customers something to drink after they’ve sat in our drive thru for 20+ mins trying to order.
Also got yelled at by my SM because a customer ordered a drink on the fly at the window..

Your SM is actual trash and not doing their job right. Call your dm and let them know what is going on. Not only should they not be yelling at you for things beyond your control but they should have took any sells they could have considered you didn’t have ice. If someone wants a no ice drink that’s well within their ability to do so your manager cannot say otherwise. Report them and give a detailed explanation of events to your dm and also pcc.

Can’t sell iced drinks? Why can’t y’all get ice bags at like your gas station or a Walmart?? My store has had to do that before when our ice machine went down

We did get ice eventually but during the 1hr window of not having ice during happy hour I was scolded for trying to help customers find a drink instead of just telling them either get a hot one or tough luck

I'm sorry friend. Any form of management had been doing a bang up job of screwing baristas and shifts over and I've seen many partners who've stayed on for years leave in the last month. Hopefully your store does better soon and your SM isnt such a (*insert choice word here*)
