Advice on availabilities and getting fired (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by patagoon3r
So I gave my SM my availability for the fall, Im going back to school full time and have online classes almost every weekday. I wrote down that I could work Mondays and Wednesdays anytime, I don't want to work weekends as my boyfriend works 9-5 all week so weekends are our only full days together.
My manager then told me that I had to give her atleast 3 days, I told her I couldn't do that and she basically said then I need to quit.

What are my options here?

I thought you had to give minimum 16 hours available which I did. If she tells me I have to quit isn't that firing me? Should I be getting some kind of compensation for that?

I'm gonna call pcc tomorrow and see but thought I'd ask for advice here too.

Your SM shouldn’t have told you to quit; however based on needs of the business they can suggest that you may need to find other employment due to not being able to use you on the schedule.

Technically it’s up to a store manager on what they need baristas to be able to do in order to be worth keeping on the team. My store manager only hires people who can promise to be on our team for a year (no summer jobs). She shouldn’t have said “you need to quit” but she does have the right to just stop giving you hours if you were hired part time, essentially forcing you to quit. She can’t fire you for that, so she’s trying to loop hole it. Sounds like a shitty SM.

Sounds like your store needs won’t be met with your availability. You either need to have availability that will work with what the store needs or find other employment since your store won’t have the need for a barista with your availability
