This would be a better alternative to happy hours. (i.redd.it)

Back in the day, Happy Hour was an event. Our store manager made us shirts, we’d dress up and have spirit days during it. Having it be a few days in a row made sense because it felt like this special thing. They were also only like once or twice a year.

The way they work now, this is a wonderful idea. I feel like they’d potentially be able to get more out of it because I’m sure there’s plenty of customers who aren’t afternoon coffee drinkers who would totally take advantage of it if it meant they’d be able to bring their coworker a coffee in the morning.

Yes! I never in my life thought I would miss the 10 day happy hour event that would be in May, but this every other Thursday thing really makes me miss it. I agree with you, it used to feel like a special event! Haha and now it’s just brutal.

It really would. But then they wouldn't have a shiny number of transactions to show their investors.
professional_legos 26 points 2y ago
Given that folks could cluster them though, it's possible the ones who miss Happy Hours now would make the difference up to significantly bump the number.
pink_haired_bitch 4 points 2y ago
Definitely. I know I would miss happy hour when I worked at my old job, I wanted to partake but I didn’t want caffeine at 6-7 at night so it wasn’t worth it for me when I got off my day shift. Tbh this would be so much better

That’s such a good idea!

post this on the main sub if you haven’t already
heykaygray [OP] 5 points 2y ago
I definitely will!

This is a great idea til someone comes and does a 16 drink HH order during peak. “Choose your own day” to come 2-cl would be great.
pres_ofcanada 2 points 2y ago
It’s limited one per account
JeromeBaritone 3 points 2y ago
You’re certain? It’s changed from week to week for members. I didn’t check Thursday but I’m pretty sure one card bought 12 drinks for the price of 6 at my store.
SkylerSayys 8 points 2y ago
I agree with this
GoldTurds- 7 points 2y ago
Legit what they just did in canada. Everyone had a BoGo code, usable once over a week period.
MaciMusings 7 points 2y ago
They *did* do this recently (at least in Canada) — you could opt in by putting your email in and getting a barcode that we could scan.

... of course, they also stuck us with a normal happy hour this week, so does actually it even mean anything?
julianalu_ 2 points 2y ago
My store was still crazy busy in the afternoons just like regular happy hour so it literally just made it worse tbh
charliemagnee 3 points 2y ago
The whole reason for doing a happy hour tho is because that’s when sales are normally slower, and they try to tempt customers that may not normally come at that time with a free extra drink to drive sales. Emailing out happy hour coupons is essentially just giving everyone a bogo coupon which is probably not all the same driver for their sales. Would make a whole lot more sense for us tho
brandi_myth 2 points 2y ago
Yeah but Starbucks banks on a lot of people going “aw man I missed it” so they don’t lose profit
brewm0re 2 points 2y ago
We did this in canada! It was fantastic. Trying to push for it again.

I like what other fast-food apps do. McDonald's sends me a notif every friday for Fry Fridays where sometimes I can get a free any size fry, or it's fries for $0.01. I believe Burger King and Wendy's do the same thing. Panera too.

Doing coupons and sales that way I feel motivates people to come on their own time, and is way more straight forward than "Happy Hour" because people familiar with drinking know happy hour to be half price drinks or one very specific sale (i.e. "$2 shots of Jamesson" or something). Starbucks happy hour changes every single time
anselgrey 2 points 2y ago
That is a great idea!

Time to get seven cards so I can have happy hour all week.
Creative_Chain678 1 points 2y ago
Ion kno, bout that. Ion think the foot traffic would spread out too greatly. The only thing I see is the business would have an extra bump throughout the day on Happy Hour. The other days would be just normal with the exception of your true hard core Starbucks customer(s). That’s my take. 🤷🏽‍♂️
ecew 1 points 2y ago
But isn’t the point to bring in traffic on a day that typically isn’t busy?
heykaygray [OP] 1 points 2y ago
Yes, that is what it was originally created for, but with the pandemic, my store is busy all throughout the day now. So happy hour just makes Thursdays unbearable. I know not all stores have gotten busier with Covid, but I just think we need to find an alternative for happy hours with the pandemic. Clearly, they aren’t willing to stop happy hour, so my coworkers and I were just searching for a change.
Hoax_Pudding_Cup 1 points 2y ago
That... is actually a fine idea.
BeerCat94 1 points 2y ago
Not sure I 100% get it... Pick their own happy hour? Like WHEN they want it, or WHAT discount they want?
heykaygray [OP] 3 points 2y ago
Not necessarily whatever discount they want. Just changing the BOGO event that is usually on Thursdays from 2-7pm and making it like a reward that is loading onto people’s cards. They could choose to use it whatever day they want throughout the week instead of only on Thursday from 2-7. That way, it would break up the customer traffic and everyone wouldn’t come all at once.
