Burnout (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Sad_Post0
Anyone feeling totally burned out lately? Our store is in a labor crisis, so everyone's time off/vacation is denied because we don't have enough people to work with peoples availabilities. We're all working 30+ hours (the baristas who are in school right now are dying, myself included). The A/C is barely kicking and it gets an upward of 80° in our backroom sometimes. (it was at 86° once). The happy hours are making us lose our minds because HELLO PANDEMIC? The facial masks and upped standards are just another thing to worry about, all while not being paid hazard pay anymore. I used to love this job (I've been here 3 years) but with everything recently I feel so burnt out and disconnected from everyone and everything.

Ahem...a store in Victoria, BC just joined a union to protect these sorts of things. Just throwing that out there

Unions, Unions, Unions!

I know labour laws are dog shit in the US though, with at will employment and everything.

Another reason why unionizing would be so vital right now, but your work is cut out for you, thats for fucking sure.

Maybe try transferring? Could even transfer out the district. I know a partner who did recently and they tried to keep her back, but thankfully she knew the right words to say and exactly how to make the manager let her go. We are valuable right now, talk to your manager about less hours, or transfer.

That’s gonna be a real crap shoot right now. There aren’t many stores that aren’t in the same position. I had to separate to have a medical procedure done because we’re so understaffed they wouldn’t give me time off.
