Tall rant (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by big_boi_goose
I am really over people muttering with their masks. Like they come up, mutter their order through their mask and the plexi glass, and then if I ask them to repeat it they lean around the glass, pull down their mask, and like scream the order. Like seriously why didn’t you just speak louder before? Obviously you can understand ME through the mask and glass... I’m a green bean too so I’m also trying to get used to having the headset on which isn’t helping my situation... 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

If I’m on reg and a customer is hard to hear, I always move my headset away from my ear. Almost all my coworkers do so and we’ve been here for years. I know that doesn’t help solve the customer issue, but it helps me focus on listening.

Also, if it’s a common issue, stop a customer before they even start speaking and remind them to wear their mask properly (over nose AND mouth). It’s a good idea to check w your shift to see how aggressive you can be, but my favorite is the fake sweet yet demeaning voice for that type of customer

ugh I hate being on POS now because customers get so hostile especially when u remind them that the mask is to cover the nose as well🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

high school girl called me a bitch today for asking her to pull her mask up 😳

absolutely unacceptable. I’d refuse to ring the order. she can get served by someone else. using derogatory remarks is unacceptable even before pandemic. fcking download ur mobile app if u dont have the basic decency to deal with people🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

it was half under he breath as she was waiting for her drink (after i already reminded her once while ringing her up). we were busy so i just shrugged it off and moved to ring the next person up, esp since i dont think any of my partners even heard it. honestly says more ab her than me 🤷

My favorite is when you’ve asked someone in the drive thru to repeat their order 5 times because they’ve been mumbling the whole time and they don’t even attempt to raise their voice at all

"I'm sorry, I'm having a hard time hearing you, the speaker isn't the best so please face it when you're ordering"

-me, daily, to people who seem to think that the microphone is in their lap or their backseat or some shit

NOTE: The speaker sucks but not that much. People are just dumb.

The part that gets me is that they can hear me through the glass and mask, but go on to assume their flimsy mask under their nose is somehow blocking more sound than my thick two layered +filtered thing.

People. Stop complaining about how uncomfortable and difficult to manage masks are when you’re speaking to people who wear them 5+ hours at a time! Argh

“could u please speak up?” doesn’t mean pull mask down, lean around the divider and right up to my face, continue to mumble :-)

I work at target Starbucks and one target employee always comes by and talks so quiet it would be impossible to hear even if there was complete silence and when I ask to speak up she just shows me her phone.

Right?? It’s so frustrating but it’s hard to get them to stop because they’re convinced the mask is at fault.
