Is it all worth it? (self.starbucksbaristas)

Free ASU and decent health insurance.... I just don't know if it's worth hating every second of being at work. I don't enjoy working with my partners and I most definitely don't enjoy the customers.

ALSO THIS WHOLE PANDEMIC BS BUT THAT'S ANOTHER ISSUE DAMN

honestly for someone who pays for everything themselves having affordable medical insurance and free college is very much worth it for me.

honestly i know a lot of people who hated working at starbs n stayed because of the benefits. but once they left they actually looked happy! i mean it’s completely up to you, but my coworkers said they felt relieved after leaving.

I'm getting all my health stuff taken care of and quitting after. I'm tired of the bullshit

If you're canadian you should know that a store unionized in Victoria BC (They joined a fucking steel workers union, how fucking based is that lmao???). Lots of stores all around the country are chattering about potential unionizing.

It's possible, stay aware of your rights, talk to your allies that you work with. We need to get this done.

THEY get to chose our benefits package. THEY get to chose our wage. THEY get to sacrifice us to a global pandemic so that shareholders are happy. THEY get billions of dollars in relief aid from the Canadian and US Govt (Starbucks is on Donald Trump's "economic re-opening board" or whatever).

WE get no say. WE get no pay.

Fuck that, we need to take whats ours.

DM me if you want to talk abt it.

**Hello.**

I noticed you dropped 3 f-bombs in this comment. This might be necessary, but using nicer language makes the whole world a better place.

Maybe you need to blow off some steam - in which case, go get a drink of water and come back later. This is just the internet and sometimes it can be helpful to cool down for a second.

for me, yeah. 2 years and I'll have a degree that unlocks a job that pays literally quadruple minimum wage in my State at the barest minimum I've seen advertised.

No health insurance means I can't access lifesaving medication, so I'd be dead unless I made enough to buy my own insurance or got another job with health insurance.

So it kinda really depends. For people like me, this is the only ticket out of retail both alive and happy. If you have better options, take it and run.

My advice: Find something you love. I love making latte art and seeing my co-workers smile. I make sure I do something I like at work every day.

I stopped working in March; I’ll say this about it: while I do miss the social aspect of talking to customers and gossiping with co-workers etc, I have never been more at peace after leaving. Looking back, I realize how much unnecessary bullshit comes with the job — petty ass customers, arguments and being understaffed during peak.

I’ll always remember my time at the bux as a great experience but I sure as hell don’t want to go back. I’ll sum up the sbux culture like this: fun and social, but petty and stressful as all hell. Whether you can balance that is on you. As a generally introverted guy, i found it to be a great learning experience (i was able to come out of my shell so-to-speak) but also super mentally taxing

If you can find something better than its probably not worth it.

It was definitely worth it for me to use the ASU benefits. If you want to ask questions you can message me.
