Body seems to shut down after shifts(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by staycraycray
Does anyone come home from a shift and just...... sit. And then later soreness comes out of nowhere. And you’re so tired but you can’t sleep. And you question... everything? No? Just me? 🤷🏻♀️

I mean, yeah, for years and then I was diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia. 😬

....could I PM you about this because this has been my life for 3 years now and idk how to go about getting it checked.
piratedashel2 points2y ago
Oh hon, of course. Edited to add: I didn’t say that to scare you. I meant it more as a joke. At any rate, even if it were lupus, there is treatment and you don’t have to live like that.

Would you mind if I message you as well? I am currently trying to get diagnosed/figure out what illness I am dealing with and I would appreciate it a lot to hear about your experience?

That’s not a problem at all :)

Yep. I come into the kitchen with the purpose of making a snack but a lot of times I just sit on a stool, no talking, no phone. Just silence 😐

Yeahhh.
I get kinda stiff on the commute home, bike ride home is a lot harder than the one going out. I'll be fine up until I sit down... then nothing short of fear for my life will get me up for hours. My knees have literally given way if I stood up too fast.
Like what the fuck. 2 more years of college.

I thought it was because my only chair is broken and my mattress is over fifteen years old. Or the other bit about wearing a pillow over our faces all day and ...

Obviously it's not magic, but I found doing stretches before and after my shifts(and on lunch when possible) made a difference in how awful I feel.
Cabwriting1 points2y ago
I can attest to this, it’s really important to stretch. I’ve struggled with repetitive strain injuries even before I worked at Starbucks and stretching every chance I get is how I make it through the day, especially if I’m on bar all day.

omg ALWAYS. once i’m sitting or laying down after working all day... there’s no getting back up. and i mean my hips physically will not let me. i just know that can’t be normal 😰

Yes!!! I feel this too!! Especially after long shifts on bar. I try to drink water and eat well regularly and that helps a bit!

As an artist, working at Starbucks kind of saps all my mental and physical energy. Just the other day I got home from a 4:30 am to 12:30 pm shift. Was excited to sit down and maybe draw for a bit. My eye lids felt like lead. I passed out til 5, then just kind of . Existed. Until I had to go to sleep for the night and wake up for 6:30 am the next morning. Often times the anxiety of having to see my super mentally manipulative manager keeps me up at night so I never really rest at night.

That’s how I feel everyday after my shift ends and when I return home. Especially when I’m on morning duty (opening), from 6 am till 3 pm (3:00 am GMT till 12:00 pm GMT) after I finish and return home, am super exhausted. I try to sit in front of my PC to watch some sitcom episode on Netflix, but I end getting too much sleepy that I miss most of the scenes lol, some other times when I wanna play online gaming (Overwatch PC) I get sleepy as well in the middle of a match. When I try to go and lay down on the bed, I keep having constant troubles when sleeping, like sometimes you know the feeling ur extremely tired and trying to sleep, but keep hearing weird voices in ur head, can’t properly explain and/or don’t know the proper terms, or other example when I fall asleep, few minutes later I feel this strong pressure in my face, like blood is circulating there, or also feeling seizures in my sleep. I gotta admit, sometimes it terrifies the shit outta me
