Since I'm far away from my original store for college, I'm transferring to one much closer. I havent officially started working there yet but I've visited twice already. The first time the girl was really sweet but today in the drive thru when I gave the partner at the window my numbers they asked for my ID to confirm. I completely understand this procedure, but as someone who is transgender and is still in the early stages of transitioning, it was borderline humilitating to have to essentially out myself to a complete stranger like that and explain why my name on my ID was different than the one in the system. I want to have a conversation with the store manager about this, especially if im going to be working at that store, but I'm not sure. In my three years of working for this company, no one has ever asked for my ID and this experience was just humilitating to me.

It’s a new thing to be enforcing this policy hardcore because of a tik tok trend where people are using partner numbers who aren’t partners because someone discovered and outed they’re on the receipts.
I hope they stop printing the numbers on receipts because of reasons like this. It can be so harmful to our trans employees.😕

Oh people weren’t giving out their numbers, a random tik tok person just saw they were on receipts and told the whole world about it so random people are getting receipts just to use the numbers on them.

Oh great love that :) thx tik tok for making me humiliate myself! I've been out of the loop ig cause I took a few weeks off to get settled into college but I appreciate the information!

Anytime. And I am so sorry that you have to be put through that because of some selfish person on the internet. 😞

Yep, genderqueer partner here and I am not interested in having to show my deadname ID to confirm my identity. Thankfully, there is another way. If you load your partner card onto the Starbucks app and have them scan that instead of giving your numbers verbally, they don't need to ask you for ID.
Someone still might, but you can escalate that and the SSVs or SMs should know that the rule is ID only for verbal numbers.

You’d be surprised how many partners aren’t aware of the electronic card on the app. I didn’t, until my new SM showed me. Last week I was traveling, had left my ID in the hotel, but explained to the barista that I had the card on my app and could just scan it and she had no idea what I was talking about. She seemed really dubious about it, but eventually gave in. She probably thought I was trying to scam her. Lol.

To quote the policy from the Partner Guide:
> **Obtaining the Partner Markout and Merchandise Discount:** To obtain the weekly partner markout and in-store merchandise discount in any participating company- operated store, partners must present their current Partner Card OR share their partner number with valid ID to confirm name at the Point of Sale (POS) register. The partner number will be validated for the discount. The partner may present a Partner Card in one of the following versions:
> • temporary paper Starbucks Partner Card along with a photo identification,
> • plastic Starbucks Partner Card, or
> • Starbucks Partner Card image on the Starbucks App.
You can access the Partner Guide from the Partner Hub we can access at home if you want to screenshot it for future needs!

My coworkers always ask why I don’t ask for ID and I just give them this reason. As someone that’s trans that’d also be humiliating for me, I don’t want to do that to someone else. I just ask the name so they can confirm it, and sharpie out my partner numbers on the receipt if they ask for it (some girl visibly looked annoyed when I did that once lol)

I got my preferred name in the system when I was first hired, they changed the policy so you can have your preferred name as your partner numbers ID. Maybe it’s different in other place idk, but that sucks :( I hope you don’t need to worry about soon
_Pulltab_1 points2y ago
Right, but if your preferred name is in the system but you haven’t legally changed your name, it won’t match your ID.

Another way so you don’t have to show your ID though is if you link the Starbucks card to the app. Since that in itself requires a lot of steps on the partner end, so it’s harder for people to try using it. My store acknowledges that and will use that instead of ID.
