Tall Rant: seasonal cup edition (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by greenleafsheep
I am a relatively new green bean, I started working at Starbucks in June. I’ve never paid much attention to the seasonal drinks or cups pre employment, or worked when seasonal items came out. With the release of the new fall items and my new employee discount, I thought why the hell not, and wanted to get one of the new cups. I go to a few Starbucks near my house just because there are so many and I just avoid my store when I’m not working. Every store is sold out of this specific cup because apparently there is a woman going around to all of the stores, as soon as they open (4:30-5AM), buying ALL of the cups with the intention of reselling online. I don’t really care about not getting a cup, but does this always happen? Is this something that happens when new products come out? Why does Starbucks as a company allow a single person to buy all of the inventory especially the day & day after release? Do they ship more to the stores? I honestly had no idea people took these seasonal releases so seriously 😅

And while I’m here- any advice for a new green bean?

This happens with any limited edition merchandise honestly. Before working here and getting the cups Bc they look neat, I got into Disney pins and the same thing happened there. People would buy a good portion of limited edition items, and resell them for lots more than the retail price. Disney ended up putting a limit on how many LE things someone could buy and that seemed to help a bit. My only hope is that starbucks does the same, if they do keep up with the limited edition things.

I’ve heard of some licensed stores putting a limit per person or household, which sounds great!

Unfortunately it's pretty common. I'm about to have a conversation with my SM about a woman near me who's doing the same thing. She came in and bought all our regular venti iced cups and then came in the next day to see if we got more. The thing that made me really upset was I had a customer call to ask if we had any and when I told him what happened he said he'd called three other stores and they all told him the same thing.

Our manager specifically said not to sell more than two per person for the new studded cups. I was off for launch, i come back and there are NONE. Its so strange to me. Yeah, theyre pretty and i wanted one, but that seems excessive.

Our stuff got put out Monday. The rainbow studded made it to the end of my shift and I clocked out and bought one. The next morning at 501 some chick came in and bought every single one of our seasonal cold cups, and 5 of the hot cups. Our shelves are totally empty except for coffee. I bet this bitch bought all the toilet paper and hand sanitizer at the beginning of covid too. People need to quick being price gouging dicks.
