New Starbucks Barista...Help! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by chaiahwaiyah
I’m a new barista still trying to learn basic things about making drinks. I’ve made a list questions I have. Can anyone help me answer them? It would be greatly appreciated!!

Do all iced coffees get classic syrup unless unsweetened?

When do you use Simple Syrup and when do you use classic or liquid cane sugar syrup?

Do all Macchiatos get syrup as well unless they ask for no syrup? Is it the same for Lattes and Cappuccinos?

Does the Starbucks doubleshot on ice get a splash of milk at the end?

Do you add water to regular cold brews?

Does the Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew get classic syrup and Vanilla syrup?

Does Cold Foam get Classic Syrup and Vanilla Syrup?

Do the Iced Passion, Black, and Green Teas and Lemonades get classic syrup unless unsweetened?

Is the Misto half cold brew and steamed milk? or another type of brewed coffee?

How do I add/reload money to a customers Starbucks card or app on the drive thru register?

- yes, iced coffee is automatically sweetened unless they ask for it not to be
- I’ve never really used “simple syrup”. I’ve used classic in iced coffee the most and liquid cane in iced teas.
- Caramel macchiatos will always get one pump less of the desired syrup. Lattes and cappuccinos don’t have strips unless asked for.
- Yes the doubleshot does get a splash of 2% after being shaken.
- When you get cold brew from the regular cold brew station (with keg) then no bc water is already in it
- Vanilla sweet cream cold brew gets vanilla
- Regular cold foam doesn’t get any syrup at all
- The iced teas are automatically sweetened with the liquid cane syrup NOT the classic syrup (unless unsweetened)
- Cafe misto is gonna be made with half steamed milk and half hot brewed coffee (so pike roast, blond roast, dark roast, or decaf roast)
- I can’t really guide you through this last one bc I’m a very visual person 😅 but I hope this all kinda helps! I think there are a few parts where I’ve explained it to where I understand it so if there’s anything that seems wrong then feel free to correct me!

The regular cold foam gets 2 pumps of vanilla. I only remember because I had a shift argue with me about it and I told them to look at the recipe because it has it.

When you add funds to a Starbucks card you’ll have to save their order first and then go into the misc. tab in the order section. The reload button is gigantic so you shouldn’t have trouble finding it but it’s the middle button and then once you hit it it’ll ask how much they want to load and then you’ll scan their card/app and then go into the tender section and take their payment. From there you can hit the find order button and have it automatically pull up the next order which will be theirs and can proceed with the transaction. Hope this helps! As a green bean myself, it took a few whoopsie daisies before I figured that out 😂😂

To add on Latte Machiattos also do not get syrup by default. To reload you have a few options.

1. Usually people reload when they don’t have enough to cover the order. This is the most simple. Ring it up, charge their card to drain what is left, a prompt to reload will appear, hit yes, and type in amount. It’ll reload and finish the transaction all together.

2. Beginning of transaction after dining. Misc button, reload card, type in amount let’s say $20. Hit total, type in same amount $20, hit credit card. It’ll charge the card $20 and reload. Then finish transaction with sbux card

3. Is slowest but do it in its own transaction.

Unless asked otherwise all iced coffees get classic, yeah

Classic is for coffee, LCS is for teas. Simple syrup isn’t used that often in my experience.

Unless asked otherwise all caramel macchiatos get vanilla syrup but a customer has to ask for syrup in a latte or cappuccino (unless its a latte like PSL or CDL)

Yup double shots get milk splashes

I’ve never added water to cold brews, just ice (which I guess is technically water?)

Nah VSCCB just gets vanilla syrup

It depends on the cold foam, a VSC cold foam will get vanilla but a plain ass cold foam will just get milk (I’m pretty sure)

Yeah, they automatically come sweetened unless asked otherwise

Misto is half steamed milk half coffee, not necessarily cold brew (unless the customer asks, which is very unlikely). I use pike for a misto (unless I’m wrong)

Go to Misc. on the order screen and click on “reload starbucks card” and put in the money they want. Then you scan or swipe the card and then ask for payment and you’re good to go

Hope that helps! I am fairly new as well so if I’m wrong here on anything I invite other baristas to step in and check me
