tall vent: Asking for ID is understandable but also it sucks for trans partners (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by BoyItalian
Idk if any other trans* partners have experienced this yet but I’m two years on hormones and have socially changed my name within the Starbucks system, so I’m a completely passing male, but my govt ID still shows my birth name and gender and it’s really frustrating when I get asked for ID and then I basically have to put myself to whoever is asking and let them know that my govt ID name doesn’t match my Starbucks name, and it also kinda makes me anxious every time because I’m worried theyre gonna think I’m using someone else’s name and numbers lol, just wondering if anyone else has gone thru this too

Get a partner card. It's like a Starbucks card for baristas. Has your numbers loaded and everything. When they ask for numbers you can hand them the card and boom.

Just ask your SM about it.

The partner card on the app should function the same way!

Per Starbucks policy, you only need to show your ID if you verbally give your numbers or if you have a temporary paper Partner Card. If you have a physical one or it’s on your app, you don’t need to show your ID.

Our physical partner cards show our legal name.

Or they did when I began working there years and years ago. My partner card shows my legal name. If someone were to ask for my partner card, it would both deadname me AND contradict the name that comes up in the system, as I have changed my first name in the system to my proper name (where you can fill out you “nickname”) since my legal name isn’t changed to my proper name yet.

I’m actually unsure if I ordered a new partner card if it would show the “nickname” I have in the system, or my legal (dead) name. Mail from Starbucks that comes addressed to me still comes addressed to my legal name.

I just stopped going to stores that weren't the one at worked at tbh. Even with the partner card i had issues. I'm glad I'm not alone but I'm sorry you are going through this as well

I completely understand. My DM decided that the tiktok hack was enough reason to circumvent the policy and begin checking IDs every time a partner uses their numbers. I have my app with my correct name and partner card and this is what I've always used. I correct any store that is misinformed.

I'm. Freaking. Furrious. Of course this limits me to only getting beverages through mobile or at my home store. So when it was closed 2 weeks because someone sneezed (seriously....they had a mild cold that developed symptoms at work and they were sent home and all but 3 partners were "exposed" because block scheduling had broken down that week) I cannot use my numbers at any other store in the area. It's such discrimination. Partner resources backed them.

I really don't need some power tripping idiot telling me that I'm not allowed to use my sister's/daughter's/cousin's/wife's numbers.
