Screamers (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by blueeyedwildflower91
Are any other shift leaders super protective of their baristas? Especially the newbies? Like, I’m so sorry that drink was supposed to be iced, obviously we’re going to fix it for you. But if you could stop screaming at this poor partner who’s been here for 2 weeks, that would be great. Scream at me all you want. It’s fine. I can handle it. Don’t talk to my baristas that way.

Yes, if I see it, I will 100% step in and explain that it is not ok for the to be speaking to my baristas like that. I’ll let them know that what ever it was, was an honest mistake and that we are happy to fix it for them but they need to calm down and I will not put up with or allow them speaking to my baristas like that. And if they persist then I will do my best to remain calm, bc I can take someone yelling at me, I’m used to it, but if you curse.... your done. Leave my store! I will tell you to leave the second you curse at me.

It’s me. I’m momma bear when i see customers being mean to my baristas.
I hate when they don’t come get me when I’m not immediately in the vicinity of it happening.
I may hate it too but I’ll sit there and take it all day to protect them.

Barista here. I have a SSV who is like this. They say I’m “too nice” so people are rude to me, but whenever someone is unnecessarily rude they step in and put a customer in their place. Feels great to know they have my back. Bless all the protective shifts.

Um, they don't need to be greebeans for me to step in. Hell, I'm a shift now and my barista trainer who has been there like three years longer than me is still gunna get the mama bear protection act. Hell,
my store manager will get it. Don't yell at my team. None of us.

I'm a barista and I've told customers to get out.

I’m a shift lead and I always handle customer drama. Like as soon as I can feel it coming I step in. No need to make my poor 17 year old green beans feel like shit smh

I told my baristas when I was assist. Manager that if they ever felt uncomfortable or unsafe due to a customer that they could always call me and I’ll stop whatever I’m doing to help them out. I’m the daughter of 2 marines, I’m super protective of my people, and I am not afraid to kill a bitch with kindness 😂

My third day at a different store, my 8th shift with the company. This lady wasn't even a customer at our store that day and started screaming at my shift wanting a refund. She came in without a mask and just started screaming. He snapped back and said he was going to call the cops. And he did. He didn't want her screaming at him or the store manager. Apparently she was called on by a neighboring store too. Some of these people are crazy! I love that some of the shifts are so protective and caring

I was only a lowly barista... but frequently sought out by customers as I appeared to be in charge (large, older guy who had been around a bit too long lol (I declined advancement a number of times... I had no desire for the shift position based on the minuscule pay increase and overly large responsibility given which I didn't mind taking on some of... it was largely that I didn't want to give up my ability to decline when needed haha) that was one thing I was proud of... most of my shifts and managers (and even barisitas) where younger and smaller ladies who never had confrontation when I was on shift... I was told stories of people berating them and my baristas while I was not on shift... but if I was there NO ONE EVER talked to or acted with my people like that... we had a few semi regulars that would make it a point to only bother some of my younger ladies if I wasn't there... I'd sometimes have a little chat with them when I'd find out...

Can I transfer to one of your stores please!! I get yelled at on a daily. Because im the fat dumb B!tch who messed up because they wanted it without whip...and my bar made it with whip....

Oh that’s awful! I’m so sorry!! You shouldn’t be talked to like that!!!

Karen definitely does not want me go full Papa Bear mode, and it doesn't matter if it's a green bean or a well seasoned barista. I've actually physically stepped in front of a partner to stop a belligerent customer from engaging with them inappropriately. Not today, Karen, not today.
pixiepourover 4 points 2y ago
Yes, 💯. I definitely go into Momma Bear Mode.

I’m even more protective as a store manager than I was as a supervisor. Yell at me, a salary partner. Do not yell at my hourly partners. They do not get paid enough to be yelled at over coffee.
DJMikeyD027 2 points 2y ago
I’m with you! I’m a shift supervisor and most of the baristas are 10+ years younger than me. I go to bat for them all the time, and won’t hesitate to kick customers out of the store who mess with them
islandmongibello 2 points 2y ago
I’m not even a shift, I’m just old, and I will happily tell someone off for messing with baby baristas. Not today, satan!
ittybittybakerkitty 2 points 2y ago
I haven't had a screamer yet and I've been a barista for a month and drive thru the past week but I 100% believe my shifts and upper management would fight for us
LeiyoZynne 2 points 2y ago
100 percent im not afraid to defend my Baristas. Your coffee is not worth destroying a poor Barista mentally.
TheBoisterousBoy 2 points 2y ago
Lol y’all tolerate screamers?
AlissaS19 1 points 2y ago
we have a shift that treats us all like her children and a couple days ago a customer was rude over DTO and she heard on the headset and came over just incase to help out, she said “I did NOT like the way that customer was talking to you” and stood by incase she needed to step in
matroid21 1 points 2y ago
My favorite is when they're at the window, and you can just slide it shut while they're screaming. They just get more angry, but I don't care. Assholes deserve to get treated like assholes. We had a new girl getting yelled at, I walked over, slid the window shut, and told her I'd deal with them. When they're inside though, it sucks. I've had one person who wouldn't stop harassing me and god bless my shift for telling me to go wash dishes for a while, cause I would have thrown hands if I'd stayed out there.
