i just hate the fact that the labor i’m doing isn’t worth $9/hr. we’re super understaffed and i get called in all the time. i feel so undervalued , unappreciated, and overworked. customers are so demanding and super impatient. They forgot that we’re humans and we can only do so much. i’m kind of at my breaking point because this stress isn’t really healthy for me.

Just remember, you do not have to come in and run yourself ragged because your manager will not hire/schedule more labor. Your health and well-being ALWAYS comes over serving coffee.

Yeah but they’ve been firing people like crazy. I don’t know whether I should leave because not much places are hiring.

Do you need the job to pay bills or is it nice pocket money? Can you survive on your state’s unemployment?

Bills and I think if I quit I won’t be able to qualify for unemployment

That’s correct. If you quit, you won’t qualify for unemployment. However, you won’t get fired if you say “no” to coming in on your days off because they are short staffed. You are only obligated to work your scheduled shifts. That’s it.

I can't stress enough that it's important to learn to say no to coming in. Or just don't respond. You can't work all the time

Several people have said it, but I want to say it again because it’s the truth. You don’t have to come in when you’re not scheduled. You are only responsible for your own scheduled shifts. You can say no. You can ignore their texts/calls. That isn’t a fireable offense at Starbucks. You are so much more important than coffee! Your health and well-being come first! I wish you all the best, my dear.
