My shift taught me to batch blend without making the blender explode by shoving a dome lid in between the top of the machine and the lid of the blender lol

So long as Starbucks requires us to have insane drive times with endless customize-able drinks, I'm batch blending and if someone really wants to get on my ass about it, they can go on cold bev and do it faster than I just did.

Yep, this. One day I rebelliously told me DM this as she was observing our stores during happy hour (pre covid) and afterwards she pulled me to the side and said that all the baristas were batch blending. And I said “..and? Did you see how fast they were? And did you see how happy those kids were to get their blended sugar ice???” Didnt actually say blended sugar ice but you get it 😂😂

i work in the uk and have the reverse experience lmao - once had an ssv who demanded we didn’t “double blend” (not entirely accurate terminology but what we refer to it as) until a bartech barista came in for some training and told us there’s nothing wrong with it. now it’s like an unwritten challenge to see how many fraps you can make at once without destroying the blender. maybe it’s something to do with the components we have compared to the US? or maybe we’re all lazy here

My experience has been that it can “safely” handle 3 Venti, 4 Grande or 5 Tall. Any more and you really run a risk of it going everywhere. Even with the lid trick.

the proportions are “off”...I didn’t believe it at first but we have a customer who comes in and orders three ungodly specific Frappuccino’s that are a pain in the ass to make and they send them back if we batch them (they’re in the drive thru 9 times out of 10 so it’s not like they would know we did). I don’t batch anymore because our drinks are so expensive and I feel bad if people don’t get what they paid for but if another barista does it that’s none of my business lmao.

My old store had a lady like this. Would come through drive and order 6 coffee frappuccinos with 10 pumps of frap roast and 3 stevia and would complain that they didn't taste right if we batch them.

i had a shift get on my ass the other day for pulling the shots for a iced caramel macchiato into the cup directly instead of the shot glass.. while we had a line down the street in drive.. and 2 delivery orders.. and a few mobiles.. and i was solo bar... i said maybe those are the standards during peak when you have two bars and a bar support but this is how we get through closes. if you don't like it YOU can be the one to tell the SM to schedule more people for this day part

The main reasoning is because drinks are meant to be 'individually hand crafted' so by batching, you're not hand crafting someones individual drink. It also tends to throw off the proportions so the flavor can be weird sometimes if someone is super picky with their drink. It can get hinky if you get a Karen on your hands.

Our SM is okay with batch blending but if she knows our DM could stop by. WE CUT THAT SHIT OUT. Also we’re not supposed park people in the parking lot if they’re order is taking us a minute are we ? 💀💀
