No drink training (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by wegoodfam14
Today was my second day of training, and I’m mostly doing warming and POS. I spoke with one of the baristas (not my trainer) in the back alone and she said that many of the partners at my store cannot make drinks. I haven’t even touched anything related to a drink and tomorrow is my last day of training - is this normal or will I most likely stay on POS and warming? Also, is this normal for every store?

Both stores I’ve worked at (as a trainer) I had 10 shifts to train and practice. It is normal for bar training to be last but even still I think you deserve more time to learn.

You get 10 shifts? I get 3. I basically have to rush through everything

Yes it’s normal- at least at the stores I’ve worked at- to get bar training last. When you’re done training you will most likely be on POS or CS. Hopefully you will get bar time in small amounts with another barista or your trainer during your shifts, but if your coworkers say that not a lot of people bar, that might not be your reality. Talk to your shifts and let them know you want to practice bar if they don’t seem to put you there at all after you’re trained.

from my experience, new employees don’t get much bar time until you are well versed. but how can you get good on bar if you never get bar time? starbucks man....

You get more than 20 hours of training, in multiple positions, with your trainer. Espresso Bar is a few hours, Cold Bar is 2 hours. While you aren’t ready to be on your own on bar after training, you should have a few hours of experience under your belt. Then you just need to work in bar time during slow periods by asking the SSV if you can do bar for a little while.

Well my drink training was like one day from what I remember and it wasn’t very in depth. Often newbies are put in the drive thru(I don’t know about cafe stores...I’m assuming front pos..)for a while. Basically no bar time. I was stuck in drive thru for months before I really got time to prove myself to be competent on bar.

I had 4 days of 4 hour long sessions of training and then got sent to a new store where everyone expected me to already know everything. needless to say i didn't know shit about bar. At times i had to beg to be on bar because i WANTED TO KNOW !!!. I feel like the new training starbucks is handing out is piss poor and it's just because they dont want to have to pay people while they're training and not being 'useful' . just my opinion tho
