I bid you good luck, I live in a small town and this is pretty much the only job I can get as a student

SSV "Ya know, you've been helping out a lot during shifts considering most of our (2/5) staff is undertrained and helping with all their training." (That Im basically doing yet Im not actually getting the comission for holding their hand while they do things in the middle of rush hours)
"I'll ask SM if you could get a bonus"
Me "Ha! Yeah Im sure that'd happen. She'll say she'll ask DM and then forget an hour later."
🙄
bloodyspit8 points2y ago
literally same, except i’m a barista trainer and she’s having me help them but not full on technically train them so i’m not even getting paid
clever-science6 points2y ago
Do partners not get a food markout and five drink markouts anymore?
adrelibar [OP]9 points2y ago
Okay so, before covid we got free drinks on the clock amd a free food item, off the clock it was just discounted. Since march things changed a bit, we still got free drinksnon the clock and a free food item, but now off the clock we also get one free food and drink and then the rest are discounted
clever-science3 points2y ago
Ohhh gotcha, thanks for explaining. I'm a previous partner returning to Starbucks soon and was like 'wtfff they took away the markouts?!?!' lol. Yeah, honestly adding two markouts off the clock rather than higher pay is fucking insulting.
socialparasite446 points2y ago
Does this apply in every country?! We don’t get free food at my store
adrelibar [OP]8 points2y ago
As far as I know it differs from country to country. Im in the US
anonymous4913000002 points2y ago
It should be know this is for corporate stores. If you’re a retail store inside a Barnes and noble or something, it does not apply sadly.
officialsmolkid5 points2y ago
Ok but like my grocery bill be going down 👀
centarx3 points2y ago
Wait they extended it? I thought it was supposed to end September first
adrelibar [OP]2 points2y ago
Recently extended to next march! Read your weekly reports :)
centarx2 points2y ago
The food as well?
adrelibar [OP]1 points2y ago
Yup! 1 free food item a day even if you are not working :) again this is for the US as far as aware and doesnt apply to licensed stores
Heinz57_ketchup1 points2y ago
Me too! I thought it ended August 31.
Luckyduc778-49 points2y ago
Honestly I’m super happy with my wage plus benefits. Also the free food and drink is a super awesome perk. You guys are just too much sometimes lol
ayy-shane38 points2y ago
the amount of work that is expected of us + a positive attitude is definitely not worth what they pay us. its great that you're happy with your wage but not really cool to be saying others are "too much" for wanting to be adequately compensated.
adrelibar [OP]7 points2y ago
This comment is everything.
sizzlethizzle31 points2y ago
Imagine thinking $9.50/hr for what we do is a livable wage 😀
stubrocks-28 points2y ago
Imagine thinking serving coffee should earn enough money to live on independently.
4filth14 points2y ago
I don’t _have_ to imagine that, you scab
nhipkat8676 points2y ago
So instead of asking for better conditions what do you suggest?
stubrocks-15 points2y ago
I suggest finding a job that pays better, and then take steps to make yourself hireable in that position. My manager is a college drop-out, as is our district manager. They both worked their way from the bottom in only a few years.
Personally, I saved up my money, bought a commercial grade trimmer and leaf blower and a few hand tools. I advertise my services on Facebook for lawn care and gardening, weeding, etc., and charge $25/hr. I've been doing that one or two days a week, and it fully doubles my take-home pay. Now I'm saving up my money to buy a $1200 crap truck, and then I'll be able to offer even more services. By increasing the value I can offer, I have increased the reasons people are willing to part with their money.
adrelibar [OP]15 points2y ago
I only get 9.50 and hr and work 20hrs a week so its not great for me 😅 but free Spotify is really nice
Critical502 points2y ago
You must not be over 18 or have much to worry about then.
A 16 yo started telling me all about her plans to travel after HS because her parents can support her, then she realizes Ive been literally biking to work for the past few months, a bunch of the other partners on our staff are in shit financial status, and she just shutup.
Even working 30+ hours weekly, Im only getting about $500 checks, or $1000 a month. I dont invest into the 401k. My only deduction is tax and healthcare. If I went completely full time, I'd maybe see a whole $1200 a month.
[deleted]-19 points2y ago
damn y’all really downvoted this person for being happy with their life. how sad.
syntheticstrawbrry9 points2y ago
Nah she got downvoted because she said it was “too much” to be upset about not having a livable wage lol
[deleted]-11 points2y ago
have you considered she lives somewhere where her wage IS livable lmao?
nhipkat8679 points2y ago
Okay therefore she definitely cannot relate to the frustrations that everyone else is referring to and should not be calling them "too much". Problem solved.
