try a mesh laundry bag and see if they don’t get tangled :) i hated when that happened too

I gently tie my strings to the neck strap and wash with towels in the mix. The towels and the light gentle knot helps them from getting like this.

I’ve found that if you tie the strings to the neck of the apron they don’t get tangled! 😊
